Default Why did you buy that particular racing seat?

I'm 6' tall, 180lbs and am looking to buy a seat. This will be a track only car, so no aesthetic concerns.

Curious how you made your decision ?

i cant imagine buying one without sitting in a bunch. places like ogracing stock a ton of seats, and you can see what you like best.

that being said, when i bought my car it already had the seat in it. I'm also 6' and 185

its a cobra suzuka. Fits great.

I'm looking for a seat that will hold my head in turns.

My neck gets tired of supporting my big noggin' under a couple of g's carousel turns.

I know it would make me a better driver if I was better placed in my car.

6-2 196#s

I have an Ultra-Shield aluminum seat. I like the shoulder, thigh, and big rib support.

Golden,

does that seat have any real padding to speak of? I need to take my stock seat out and gain a little room for my 6'8" 240lb frame.

At 180 lbs you'll only need the Corbeau FX1 Pro for correct width or a 16" or 17" Kirkey or the like. Sitting in one first is really the way to go if that's an option.

i have the kirkry type.. i found it cheap on the net for like 180.00 it has the rib cups and the shoulder braces and is awsome. more comfortaale than you would think.. i added the right side head restraint and it works great dosent blur vision like some ive used.. order one size bigger than you need or you will have to cut all the padding ou of the cover like mine .... still not bad.. only draw back is its a bear to get in and out of but once in its great.. Im 6'2" and 210..

The other thing you need to determine is the amount of layback. I have the same seat as Golden but I am 5"10" and about 220 lbs. The 17 inch 20 degree layback seat fits my body fine. But, once I had the seat in the car I realized I should have purchased the 10 degree layback. There was no good way to position the seat so I could get in the car, have the seat hold my legs properly and sit at the angle I preferred to sit.

Make sure that you can get out of it very quickly, regardless of what you buy. Too many, and too big side and head bolster will impede you egress and that could be deadly.

Well I have a set of Recarro GT3RSs in the Porsche, that came with the car (I plan to replace the driver's seat with an OMP PISTA) and I'm running a Kirkey Road Race intermediate in the Zcar. The Kirkey cost about 1/10 the price of one of the recarros, but fits me better, so go figure.

Best piece of advice I can give is to find a seat you're interested in and test sit in it in a configuration as close to yours as you can get it.

about 1/2" if that. However, once you sit in the seat you could fall asleep in there.

I use the Hardbar rails and the back part of the bottom of the seat is on the floor. Lots of Head room.

I have a 14" 20* lay back drivers seat and a 15" 10* layback passager seat, which I tipped back even more

I'm 6'4" and went with Kirkey Road Race Dlx. Padding doesn't look like much but it is surprisingly comfortable for track use. Got the 17" and they barely fit with the door closed (actually edge of shoulder bolster rubs inside of door when closed but it works).

Racetech 4009 WHR -- fits like a glove, doesn't need a back brace, and the head restraint helps JIC. No fitment issues in the car, even with the cage.

Lots of good advice here guys.

Are there any retailers that you know of that are further North of OG Racing? Say Jersey? Pa? Maryland? Maybe NY ?

TPC in Jessup Maryland and At Speed north of Baltimore both have race cars on hand with various seats you could test "sit" in to get a feel. They're both mainly porsche race shops, but I've heard they occassionally have other makes in there as well.
