ST2 or HPDE Corvette FOR SALE
not looking like I'll have the funds to race next year, so I'm making this available. I have about $25k in the car, parts, wheels etc. I'll consider any offer. It's stored under a shed at the farm, so the photos aren't great. It's in Albemarle NC if you want to see it.
The car is a 97', nothing fancy, but was designed to be competitive yet reliable and easy to service. It weighs around 2950lbs with me in it, and makes around 325HP, perfect for ST2. I ran a couple of races in 06, and it ran great, and it will really fly with a few more events to dial things in.
I removed the roof to give adequate head clearance (always an issue in Vettes when wearing helmets) and to save weight. I have tons of head room now.
97' coupe "convertibilized"
6-speed
Quartermaster 3-disc 5.5" clutch
Pfadt coil overs and adjustable sway bars
18x10.5" wheels, 2 sets, plus OEM wheels with street (rain) tires
Extra stock hood and fender
spare suspension parts
spare brake calipers
spare pads (good, used Hawks)
Kirkey aluminum road racing seat
LS1, upgraded rod bolts, timing chain, and hardened push rods
LS6 intake manifold
LS6 MAF
LG Long Tube headers and X-pipe
Aluminum racing radiator with integrated oil cooler
6-point cage
As far as I know, all I need to do for 08' is get a second door bar on the passenger side, and install a right side net or seat "tab" for the head restraint.

I have looked this over several times. I love the fact that you convertiblized it, but for someone like me, I feel like you should've gone ahead and made the roll cage futher behind the head. Where it's at would impose on my headspace, but I am abnormally large.

2000BSME, to put the main hoop further back would require either
1. Slanting the bars at a really steep angle
or
2. Attaching it through the bulkhead, which requires attachment almost directly adjacent to the fuel tanks (makes repair difficult, requires removing entire drivetrain and fuel tanks)
or
3. Putting a bend in the main hoop in the forward/aft direction.
After going back and forth with some of the NASA folks, we decided it was safer to have the bar as vertical, and with as few bends as possible. I didn't want to dissasemble the car, so this was my choice.
And for the record, the car has tons of head room. The bar is high, wide, and far back. The ONLY limitation is that the seat can not go back any further without changing the belt attachment bar. I'm 5'10", and it fits me perfectly. This car would not fit anyone much larger than myself without making modifications, however, very few corvettes with Roll cages fit you big guys.
This car actually has more head room than any of my previous cars, since I bowed the bars outward.
And Wallyman, I do plan on running VIR in Feb. I got a tiny bit of funding from a local company, and hope to do 3 or 4 weekends, hopefully VIR and Rd Atlanta.
I'll get some updated photos. I finally painted the roll cage, and I painted the tonneau. Still no beauty queen, but it looks much nicer.
I'm trying to decide if I should leave the hood like it is, or paint it solid red. I like the fact that it was my old World Challenge hood, but yellow and red don't really work for m.

I'm sure the usual bunch of Mid Atlantic FFR's, along with Tony Johnson in his FFR from here in the SE will be there. I don't know if Mike Powers (from SE) in his new Nissan 350Z will be there or not.
Should be a great crowd.

we've almost go enough to do a separate start......that would be fun. I hate racing "out of class" if there is actually competition "in class"
I'm getting "teched" and hopefully dyno "certified" this weekend. If nothing unexpected happens, I'll go ahead and register for VIR next week.
