Default Tell Me About Your Trailer Winch

What type and capacity winch is required to load my '90 track car onto the trailer. The car is about stock weight and my 6' ramps provide a +/- 30 degree slope. (vertical height is 18") What do I need to know to make the right choice?

Depends on how fast you want to pull it up and if you want to use a block which gears it down.. I want to buy a Ramsey which is made here in the USA.

I uswe a cheap HF winch for emergencys on my 88. Pulling power for rolling stock is around 6000 pounds and I don't think for a minute it would do that. I thas pulled my car and several others up on to the trailer several times without a problem. Price is around $50.00.

The best way to go is with a winch that has mechanical braking vs a less expensive one that has dynamic braking ( done by the motor).

Ramsey and Superwinch are my choices.

We use a 2300 lb line pull Superwinch to get a vintage Nascar (3600lbs)into a trailer. Superwinch GP series ( $270 at Summit)

I've also seen very good prices on both at www.northerntool.com.

I just purchased a cheapo $90 unit from Sams club, for that task. I have yet to install it, but by my calculations, the incline of the ramp and the weight of the vehicle, the pull would be approximately 2550 lbs., and my winch is rated for 2500 lbs. I am contemplating what to do. I may try it straight, or I may put a ****** block in the line.
