Melting Slicks
The 3 bolts holding the hub to the spindle. Including me, I know of at least 3 C5 guys that have had them loosen up. If you find them loose at all I'd pull them out all the way, wire brush 'em good and clean, use some brake cleaner and a pipe cleaner or something to clean the female side, then put a s-ton of locktite on them and reinstall/torque.
It's said the coolant overflow tanks crack a lot, I haven't had that issue (knock on wood) but it's worth a quick look.
If it's never had column lock removed, get rid of that!

Burning Brakes

...plus a through look under the hood for any leaks, make sure the battery is tight, depending on mileage take a good look at the belt and tensioner (if either of these fail, no more power steering....never a good thing). Then the usual, fresh brake fluid, pads and a bleed. Not unlike your C4.

I'd still give up a waterpump in a heartbeat over PS going into a turn at 90!
