Default Hans or G3, one peice or two

Need some input.

Hans or G3? The G3 seems a better product but does it interfere with your back?

Also, I am thinking of atwo peice suit rather than a one, so its easier to get cool and remove the jacket. Any negatives on this?

two piece in fire not for me. HANS for me and most pro racers.

I've got a HANS and am very happy with it. It really does not impede any movement for me other than movement I prob shouldn't be making anyway. I am not as familiar with the G3 but I know that the HANS has been tested prob more than any other systems and the results are very well known.

As for the drivers suit, I would always go for a one piece! I won't want any chance for fire to breach the suit coverage and get to the body!

Yeah, I was thinking the same, but then why do the dragster crowd wear two peice?

I'm only guessing, but there safety vehicle is a lot closer. It would take a lot longer for a fire truck to come to our rescue.

I use a HANS. I have enough problems with my back. It looks like it could easily irritate it. The one good selling point of the G3? (R3) is you can use it in any car setup. I was thinking of buying both depending on what I was doing.

I would check the rules of any organization you are planning on driving with or may be considering, some have strict rules about what you can use.

As for the question about drag racing, their rules are in many ways far more relaxed than road racing, cages in do not have to be DOM or if Chrome Molly can be of lighter material, etc. This may not be true for all orginizations, etc, but I have seen some things I would not deem safe enough and you know they have really hard crashes, it seems more often than in road racing(certainly for the amount of time behind the wheel!)

My SCCA region mandates a one piece fire suit.

Remember that the HANS is the ONLY FIA certified Head and Neck Restraint Device. That and with the new "add on" it will also be the first and only to help side to side motion as well as front to back.

as for the suit, why get a two piece, when a one is better?

Thats my personal preference, but how much is your safety worth?

Ok, I got a 2 layer, one peice Simpson today, fit was great.

I looked and tried the HAns and the G3. Gotta tell you, the G3 is not as bulky yet seems to give more support. They were outof stock, but I think that is the one.

Two piece driving suit? Don't go there. a minimum of a SFI-5 two layer ONE piece suit.

I ware cotton shorts under neath and take the suit off between sessions, or at a minimum unzip and pull the top down around my waist.

Yeah, I tried on one of the suits at Simpson and when I took it off, realised no undies.

Girls at the counter were smiling.

Any comments on our comments on the restraint device???

Make sure it is allowed for your intended purposes or it is money down the drain no matter if it is less bulky, more comfortable, more supportive, etc, it still must be approved

If not a concern then please at least say so buddy

We are just trying to look out for you!

Good words my friend and thanks for lookin out for me.

I will look into it. At this stage we are setting up an outside series for our spec car. I am looking for safet first, rule compliance last.

Here is a link to the R3. Its interesting. I tried the Hans and they are a little wobbly one the shoulders, but this ubit uses a chest strap and it feels more solid as if uses the upper back for support.

Let me know what you glean from this link.

The manufacturer states NASCAR approved:

I am making the same decision. I just watched the LFT video about the R3. They claim their devices are the only ones who can help you survive a high-G side impact. Of course it was their video. A buddy of mine who owns a race shop runs an R3 in SCCA Club Racing erents. I hope to borrow it from him to test out at a track.

Remember that the HANS is the ONLY FIA certified Head and Neck Restraint Device.
So what? Both HANS and R3 are SFI 38.1 certified. That is more important than a sanctioning body.

This thread is very long but it discusses some of the differences between the different neck restraint systems. It also has some of the manufacturers talking about their products.
