Ideally, I'd like to pick up scrubs to start. If you know where/who I can get some R-compound tires in 18" (ZO6 wheels all 'round) please, post up!

I have a set of hoosier slicks (non DOT) scrubs. They are 315s and 295s a few years old but i ran a set in oct 4 20 min sessions and they stuck very well and did not go away at all. I have 4 295s and 2 315s will let go for 200 plus shipping.

He may not have much in A's if you're looking for autocross tires, but he might have some R's.

Thanks Chris and Bob, I'll give him a shout!
BTW, will R's work equally well for autocross events? or are they too soft?

There is a someone in southern WI that sells used Race tires too.
Phils tire service in NY http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=17943
Bob Chick in SC
For BIG meat used 18" off of Vipers The Track Store in TX
17" used race tires call Phoenix Performance ( forum vendor)
Check the NASA forums: http://www.nasaforums.com/viewforum.php?f=34
Wonder if Bob Chick will have the Grand AM Pirelli scrubs in a week or so

I'm not exactly sure what you mean; will R's work as well as A's for autocross? No, R's are harder than A's, therefore they take longer to heat up to their optimal temperature, and typical autcross runs are too short to get them up to temperature.

Ok, I get it
So A tires heat up faster than R's. That's the difference. Got it.
So can I use A tires for HPDE's? Or will they get too hot?

I wouldn't recommend it; they'd be faster, but who's counting in an HPDE? But the main thing is you wouldn't get the same longevity out of A's that you would from R's.

I just looked at a set of new RA-1's; $1200-$1300, depending who you buy from! That's a big budget hit, for sure. Guess I'll focus on finding used A's now.
Thanks Chris.
