Here's a video of Danny passing me on the inside at the Keyhole at M-O during the NASA National race in Sept. Watch how the car is barely staying under him in the turn.

My point is that the "blessed" part is getting to drive for a living at a top level. There are a lot of great drivers out there that just never got the right opportunities.

aparently he is less afraid to die than i am.. or an unbelievable gift from god.. or mabee years of experience or all of the above.. have met him but never got to drive against him.. mabee ill get the chance this year!! if my buddy dave mullen says he's fast thats sayin somthing..
But after watching him run 2 3/4 laps at Nelson Ledges (one of, if not the fastest track in the country) with NO brakes and Holding off a faster version of a craftsman truck, there may be something to that gift from god thing.

I am sure Danny is great but many things come into play as the cars power and setup, tires, experience and experience at a particular track. I am sure you picked up some pointers running behind him for a while.
Also getting to different levels of racings sometimes is a collection of luck. Things like how much money you have, personal life circumstances like family responsibilities, the right person seeing you and all the stars colliding at the right moment. Saying someone is not at a particular level because of talent is not always the case by far.

John - Danny truly has the gifts of God. His "seat of the pants" is unreal....all 4 corners...in milliseconds.
My opinion- if RAFTRACER had started in karts (his family did autocross. Mom, Dad and brother) he'd have gone to F1. He's that good.
He needs to train and give up the cigs. Hint...Hint. I'll shut up now.

jeez - I sound like a fricken cheerleader. I'm not a fan, groupie or idolizer.
But, facts are facts.
I do have a HUGE amount of respect for his talent.

Not to take anything away from Danny, I truely believe he's one of the best drivers at our level, but I'm more impressed with the guy who wins spec miata. It's more driver skill & less car.

I have a ton more Video, I'm trying to go through it all and put something together. I'll post some cool stuff as I come across it.
Yeah, I learned when you're down 200 HP you can't even see him after two straights.

After years of watching people drive SCCA, NASCAR, NASA, etc., Danny Popp has the best car control I have ever seen.
It doesn't matter what he dirves, his car control is superb and right on the edge of adhesion.
