I am going to post this in the C5 tech section and the autocross section. I have searched all possible forums but I cannot seem to come up with an answer to my question. I am wanting to build a C5-R 'tribute' car. Meaning a sort of race inspired vehicle for the street. My weight goal is around 2800 lbs. Do you think this is a reasonable goal, 6 point roll bar, trans/diff cooler, accusump, 2 racing seats, and everything else not essential to the operation of the vehicle removed. Its 400 lbs less than stock, some of you guys with more knowledge than me should be able to answer this. The weights measurement sticky doesn't list weight for the HVAC system etc. Thanks for you help. I am not sure what the T1 cars come in at, just want to know if this is a reasonable goal.

That much wt reduction is pushing it without replacing many parts with carbon fiber. and not that carbon fiber sheet or carbon fiber lamiate.

replace glass, light wheels, light rotors, seats,alum. door panels no- guts,no air, coil overs,light sway bars,light battery,light frt clip.elim pop-up headlights.should be close

I agree, you will not get to 2800lbs without doing a lot of cutting, and replacement of parts. My ST2 car is pretty much gutted completely, AND I removed the entire roof and hatch, and it weighs around 2800lbs. It has NO AC, no passenger seat, and the entire dash is completely gutted.

If you wanted to get the C5R style fascia, along with carbon hood, fenders, etc from ACP, you could save 100lbs or so, but even then it won't be easy to get a street car under 3000lbs.

How much are you expecting to spend? T-1 cars are heavy you need a WC car build to get there. Street legal doubtful.

could you put c6 zo6 frame under it, thats alumi.?

That is tough. You could start with a C6Z and maybe get there. My C6Z has some lighter weight stuff like rotors, calipers, wheels, tires, and the C6Z has the aluminum frame, mag subframes, etc and it is still 3081 with a 1/2 tank of gas.

seats and rugs are near another 100 lbs. I need to weight my car one day or scale it would be better. You'll need CF body parts

Moton coilovers
Every bracket, stud, last little bit of caulking, excess wiring, etc removed
Totally gutted doors, alum dash, replacing the steering column,
Lexan windshields, no side glass, no carpet, upholstery, HVAC totally removed.
Headlights, marker lights, all lighting wiring except dash and 3rd brake light removed.
Under 20 lb wheels, race tires are not very heavy for thier size
New cage, removed 0.125 and switching to .095 tubing but more bars probably gain 10 lbs.
Washer tank, radiator overflow tank removed(spun alum radiator tank, much smaller, going where the battery used to be)
Small Odyssey battery located in the rear
Small diameter sparco streeing wheel, no airbags, no stock seat belts, one seat.
No cats, tiny mufflers, no license plates,
ETC, etc, ...............

I may get close, would love to get down to or below 2,800 lbs

Rick, you can definitely do it with a track-only car. I did it with mine, but things like racing clutches (save 60lbs), seats, no insulation/carpet, no AC compressor etc, all go into doing it.

I don't see him buying C6Z06 (aluminum frame) in order to make a C5R replica!

My ASP, C5 Z06 is at 2880 making about 400 to the wheels----full interior with Sparco Evo seats-----Momo wheels-----passenger airbag still in the car------

If I just removed the carpet in the whole car maybe another 40lbs or so ? But I can't do that in the class I run in.

18x10.5 all around Hoosier A6 285 front 315 rear. No A/C, no radio, no washer fluid, carbon hood, light battery, no cats, headers

what does c6z frame weigh compared to steel c5? Has to be at least 150lbs lighter.titanium bolts.light flywheel .Were is the weight in a c5? My friend says c5's have heavy clay fiberglass. Prob room there

can let ya know soon ..that;s where i am headed with my car..but..the dry sump motor is a little heavier.the dte brace adds weight,,,the center brace,,,i'm shooting for 3000 with me in the car

I am at 2970 full fuel.. The only way to add more lightness is to remove HVAC, which is all thats left to remove, and trade body parts for CF panels...

Ths specs on that C6R say it uses the steel chasis hydro formed frame rails. I'm surprised it doesn't use the aluminum ones used in the C6 Z06.
