Default A question for FRC owners..

I originally posted this on the C5 tech section....

I'm currently looking at buying a 1999-2000 FRC primarily as a car to do HPDE events. Many cars that I've seen do not come with the JL4 option (active handling).
Is this an option that should be considered a "must have" on a car that will be seeing 5-7 track events per year?
thanks for any help

Nope

We tell ppl to leave the AH/TC ON to learn how to be smooth. Turn AH/TC OFF to learn how to drive.

IIRC the FRCs did not come with AH.

Tom,

Actually, they do. My '00 was built in late '99 and has AH.

MikeMM, AH is a nice-to-have on the street, but you probably have lived without it for a while now. On the track it's a crutch that makes you feel better than you are, to the detriment of the brakes and tires.

Definitely *not* needed for DEs or Autocross. Get your FRC and have a blast!

Have a good one,
Mike

In 1999 the JL4 was an option and 52% of the FRC Corvettes came equipped that way. In 2000 53% were equipped with this option.

I used to autocross with the AH in competition mode on my '99 FRC but it's faster with it off now that I'm more familiar with the car. I autocrossed C4's before that for about 7 years. On the drag strip I leave it in competition mode, if I hit a slick spot it might keep me out of the wall.
