Dedicated Subsection for "Race Parts For Sale/Wanted"
Does anyone else share the opinion that the creation of a
subsection dedicated to threads offering race parts for sale
or wanted would be a welcome addition?
The addition of subsections is easily managed using tools in the
administrative area of the vBulletin forum software.
Eg: the "Race Parts For Sale/Wanted" could be added as a child
forum below "Autocrossing & Roadracing" in its current location
under "General Corvette"
Or "Autocrossing & Roadracing" could be moved up in the hierarchy
to the same level as "Cx Corvettes" "General Corvette", "Events"
and "Off Topic". The new "Race Parts For Sale/Wanted" could be
established underneath, perhaps with other new subsections like
"Race Cars for Sale/Wanted", a dedicated subsection for
supporting race parts vendors and so on.
Another approach could be to create a "Racing" section at the top
level of the hierarchy and then organize subsections below as
follows:
AX & RR in the Stickies section - but that approach jumbles offers
and responses together in an indiscriminate manner that serves
no one well.

I am always looking for parts. I like the idea of a racing section.

But this does not permit grouping of offers and responses for discrete items.
Current situation
Over the course of a few days or weeks, tracking items becomes
pointless when the discussion all takes place in one thread.

Seller #1: I have a widgit for sale
Buyer #1: I am looking for a brickbat
Buyer #2: Hey Seller #1, how many clicks on the widgit and what colour is it.
Buyer #3: Seller #1, will you consider an aardvark and cash in trade
Seller #2: Buyer #2, I have a good brickbat for sale - local pickup only
And so on ...Buyer #1: I am looking for a brickbat

Having a separate "Corvette Racing" section makes sense as it would create a specific section for discussion of racing. Racing seems slightly out of place in the General Corvette section. Moving the Autocross and Road Racing and the Drag Racing subsection out would clean things up and better categorize things. The Engine Mods section would be a good fit in a Corvette Racing section too.
The existing "Post your Race Parts 4 Sale Here" child forum is getting so big at 19 pages and close to 600 threads that it's sometimes hard to find what a person may want, given the current condition of the Search function.
Splitting it into separate Race Cars and Race Parts along with a Supporting Vendor Race Parts section makes good sense, but this section should be limited to just that, race related or maybe performance parts. New cars, interior and exterior mods, and stock type wheels and tires should go to other more appropriate areas. And maybe limit GP's to race-related parts.
There may be a possibility of some people cross posting from the Generations sections. That may be a learning curve at first but there may have to be some extra moderating to move or delete non-appropriate posts.
Would it be feasabile to put a time limit on parts for sale posts? Say 30 to 45 days and if something doesn't sell, or if the OP sells his stuff and doesn't ask for the thread to be locked or deleted, then the thread automatically gets locked. Can vBulletin even do that? Or would a Mod have to track post dates? Guess the idea here is to not have old threads popping up with somebody asking a question about a part and/or car 3 months after the thread got started.

My vote is that there is no need for a defined time limit requiring
manual intervention. The same archiving mechanism that
automatically locks threads elsewhere in the forum on an admin
determined schedule can be set to work.
In "C4 Parts For Sale/Wanted", threads involving the parting out
of a car run on for pages and weeks or months. Single items or
small collections work through a process of offer/request, discussion
and closure.
Closure occurs either through explicit acknowledgement that an item
has sold and is NLA or through falling back in the listings through lack
of interest.

It would make everything cleaner and generally easier to find the right responses, especially when more than one person is selling the same thing.

I really like this approach. I would refine the idea by making the changes in Red above. (The rest of you, please give us some more refinements.)
Sure we can ask the mods to make this kind of change, but we need a lot of people making the request before the mods will take action. So how many of us want this change?

My vote is that the existing topic sections have been working well
as currently defined. The reason for my suggestion about changes
to the menu hierarchy is simply a way to support the addition of
a dedicated "Race Parts" subsection.
While it is technically possible to create a "Parts" child at
the fourth level (below "Main/General Corvettes/Autocross & RR/),
the existing CF user interface protocol is to stop at the third
level.
This practice likely helps to simplify navigation around the CF site.
Rather than suggest that CF administration change UI protocol to
accomodate a new section at the 4th level, my thinking was that
a regrouping of existing racing subsections under a racing heading
would organize the racing subsections into a layout similar to the
generation subsections (ie: C6 Corvettes, C5, C4 ...).
What I want to keep in sight is the idea that the transformation of
the "Race Parts" thread somehow into a dedicated subsection might be
a benefit to the racers on CF.
In hindsight, the proposal should have been made in a different manner.
Hopefully it is viewed in the spirit intended and at the appropriate time
receives due consideration.
