Default Wet Weather Autox Tire Choice

I normally run A6s and trailer tires, but when it rains what tire to use?
I have a stock 2000 C5(17"and 18") and would like to use a streetable tire. BFG KDs are now worn out. Anybody have a hot pick?

The best tire I've ran in rain, and I mean 3-6" of rain, are Hoosier Rain R's. To have these tires perform there needs to be a sheen to the surface raced on, according to the Hoosier Engineers I spoke to at Nationals one year.

I took this tire to the Fontana (Cal. Motor Speedway) Pro Solo and took a smooth Sunday type of drive, and had Best Time of the Day in Superstock on Saturday with 1-3 inches of rain on the ground. Cold 42 degree weather. Yuk! Many guys bought a set of these tires when they came back, after seeing how they perform. Any tire less and I'll beat ya!

The best thing I found was a new set of street tires. Mine were Firestone's at the time, but I really think it was just the dumb luck that they were brand new. I was setting PAX (not normally anywhere close) until the sun came out in the afternoon.

Hoosier is a DOT approved tire which means it can be driven on the street, yet not something I would have on the street either because of excessive wear.

If you want to be top dog, you need Hoosier Rains. Period.

Use anything else and the other guy on Hoosier Rains will eat your lunch.

Frank Gonzalez
Been there, done that with Hoosiers.

Hey, Hi Frank! Nice to hear from you. Sorry we weren't on Grid next to you at Nationals... Running ASP now.

In a light rain without a whole lot of standing water,Hoosier wets shaved to intermediate depth (half tread) work incredibly well. If you have huge puddles and lots of standing water, full depth works good.
