Tire Walls
Well I hit my first tire wall Monday at CMP. I got the one protecting the conrner worker station at turn 11. This is my right rear rotor which we think cause me to go off.
This is my car after the off.

Sorry to hear that, I'm thinking the rotor could have caused a problem

Yikes! Hate to see that, and yes - that rotor looks quite suspect!
Glad you're okay, and hopefully the car damage is just cosmetic and maybe a rear tie-rod.
I found my first tire wall at Road Atlanta in August - but my only excuse was pushing stupidly hard in practice! So, I feel your pain.

The rotor was a Canadian NAPA.
I did not see any cracks or stress marks on it when I put it on Friday.
As far a damage we think that it is just fiberglass and no frame or suspension parts.
I am glad that I wear an R3 head and neck restraint. The officials at CMP say that I knock the section of tire wall I hit 20'. I did not have my in-car video and because it was so cold no one really saw what happen, including my wife.

glad you are ok - wish I could have made it out to CMP to see you all and run one last time this year...
hope the damage is easily repaired and you're back at it again next year

Thanks ernd it I am going to learn how to do the repairs myself. So I hope to be back by March.
Saw Pat and Charles there I was hoping to take some parts off of Pat's car but he did not like that idea.

Damn man that's just terrible. I know of a guy that used to work with/for GM (Corvette division) and he bought up a ton of C5 body parts several years ago. Most of them were new test panels and have never been installed. A buddy of mine just bought a front bumper cover from him at about 1/3 cost of new and it was perfect. Let me know if you need something.

Thanks, I have a small project that I need to do for my wife before I start on the car. I am hoping to use used parts but if I can get new for the same price that would be great.

It's interesting that it's a rear rotor. They usually don't get that hot. On the other hand I've cracked rear rotors that were cross drilled - which is why I don't use drilled rotors any longer.
Do you have any idea on the brand of rotor? There are a lot of really bad rotors on the market today. If you shop price you're probably going to get some really lousy rotors.
I've got a bunch of brake pictures on my blog, including the ceramic ones. I just spoke with some people about the new rotors. For a Lola the rotors are $10,000 each. A friend just priced them for his Enzo. The rotors and brake pads are $28,000 to do the front brakes. I guess the ZR1 folks are going to have fun when they need new brakes.

while that rotor may be the cause of your accident (i have no idea what the circumstances were), i hit some armco a couple years back (not a bad accident) and it caused a front rotor to blow up. The catastrophic rotor failure could have been due to the impact.
But, the good news is that i highly doubt your car needs anything more than a new rear quarter panel and maybe a tie rod. Corvettes are so easy to fix. I've had to do it quite a few times.

The canadian rotors were suppose to be good...
Maybe the China rotors are better... sheessss.
IF the rotor was cracked before the failure, you would have felt it in the brake pedal.
The big question:
was the AH on or off?
were you really sliding the car around every corner to engage the AH excessivly??

I run with the AH off unless it is a wet track. The rotor had some other track days on it, but was fine when I put it on. I have had a cracked rotor on the front before so I do know what one feels/sounds like. One of my friends went to look at the track to see what tire marks might be mine. Where my wheel locked up is not a place you would normally brake. He said he could see where my right wheel probable locked up when the rotor cracked and hung on my caliber.
