Default Turning Rotors

This is probably a silly question, but figured I'd ask anyways. Is there any risk to doing HPDE's on rotors that have been turned? I have a set of oem rotors that I thought were toast, but a buddy of mine told me that there were ok and needed to be turned. The oem rotors had had spider cracking and some superficial cracking from hole to hole, but after a quick trip to NAPA they look great (no cracking). Thanks

I wouldn't. Turning them removed material that is needed to absorb heat. The are now thinner and weaker and even more likely to crack. Trash them and buy a set of new ones before going to the track.

Are they worth anything? Street driving? I currently have a set of dba 4000's for HPDE's, but they are getting worn out. Guess I'll look to replace those outright.

If they cracked with the original mass, they will crack that much sooner now and possibly in a more acute manner.

I switched my C6 to C5 brackets and now get NAPA solid rotors for much much less and change them about every 3rd event.
Much safer, cheaper and stops just as good.

If they look bad enough to keep you from using them then they are not any better after being turned.

but - I have used turned rotors on the track - usually when I replace a cracked one...I keep the spidercracked ones as crack spares also...

"Most" shops will not turn a rotor below the minimum spec. If they've only been turned once, I would definately use them on the street and never worry about it.

Why would you ever turn a rotor? I've never had a rotor on the Vette wrap just crack than it's trash.

To clean up the surface grooves and get to fresh bedding surface - you should never approach min thickness - it costs me $5 a rotor when I do it. I get quite a few takeoffs from guys going to bling rotors....

I do not recommend it for the track - but I have done it for "seasoned" replacements. They seem to do better then "green" rotors as far as cracking goes.
