Default Anybody running electric power steering? We have a power steering pump delete pulley

How many people have a need for this product? We just made this for a customer and could make more if needed. This allows proper belt routing without a power steering pump.

Which electric PS pump are you using to keep up with road racing?

Will they keep up with autoxing?

Brian,

The pulley pictured is a custom made piece Katech made for me.

I decided to change a few things on my engine during Winter here. I replaced the power steering pump because I kept blowing through them. They simply couldn't handle the continuous high RPM the Beast runs at.

Not related, I have also decided to bump up the compression and put in a cam better suited for the Hollinger setup which usually operates between 4800-6800RPM. I originally thought it would be nice to have the option of running 93 octane, but it has been tuned for race fuel right out of the box so and have always pumped Sunoco 100.

I put in an electric pump which has been awesome. Aside from working great, it gave me much better steering feedback, very precise.

It's a BMW Motorsports pump. It will work just fine for autocrossing.

We are running electric power steering, though are taken care of on the bracket. Thanks

Re: workable systems -
I've heard about the BMW pump and hear it's excellent. We went for the Toyota MR2 set-up as it was pretty darn reasonable ($250 or so for a factory new pump) and could just hook into our car's previous power steering rack.

What gave me comfort to go for this was that a friend used it for his Porsche twin turbo beast of a track car. If it could run that, I felt secure. I have about 18 hours on it, and so far so good. It's also tuneable as to how much resistance you want.

Good luck Katech, as this is a nice part to have.

I'm pretty sure it's a '92-'93, but it'd be best to do some online research to confirm. Most guys were buying them used at about $100 or less, though since I was going into a 25 Hour race, I figured new was the only way to go for just $150 more ($250).

The common point people mention though is that it's loud. For a street car, it'd likely be an issue, though once I get out of the paddock and 5-10mph, I can't hear it. I had been running manual steering before and I just love it now, as it's tuned to retain a good feel, but it's much easier to put the car where I want it.

I can't speak too much about reliability yet, as it's only got about 18 hours or so on it, but so far so good.

Jason:

Where is that p/s delete bracket located on the block? Is it just the angle of the photo or is it at the lower right (when facing the engine)? Mine's at the upper right. My guys had to make the delete bracket as it would have been nice to have such a clean unit as yours at the time.

Thanks.

It bolts to the power steering pump holes. Its just the angle of the photo.

Everett,

It's not how big your cam is, it's how you use it.
