Default Federal "Cash for clunkers" program

Nope, it's NOT the econazis buying up old polluting cars.

It's part of the "economic stimulus package"

http://www.vetteweb.com/features/vem...ram/index.html

page had link and phone # to oppose it.

This "stimulus" package is going to have more pork than even the US Government has seen before.

Going to have to disagree that it's not econazism as well.

These things are always sold disguised as being "good" for people. Just one example. Red light cameras are strictly for $afety. A community close to me has the real solution. All directions are red for 2-3 seconds before a green. No money in it but it works.

And no, I don't run lights and have never received a ticket for it.

That's a good idea, turn us into more wastefull of people.
Wally here in town does the same thing. He has a sign in town cash for junk cars. If you have a junk car, he picks it up on his Chevy flatbed. Pays you cash and brings the car to the scrap yard. Why are we paying someone to write a bill, it's is all ready being done???

What a horrible idea. Let's all just sit around waiting for nothing just in case somebody runs a redlight they can get away with it and not cause an accident. Let's instill the idea that running a redlight is not dangerous because you have a 2 - 3 second cushion. We all need to suffer more backed up traffic, long commutes, and waste more gas because we have to accomidate redlight runners. Genius.

I think the mechanics should oppose "cash for clunkers". They benefit mostly from them being around as the majority can't fix it all themselves.

IMHO, this program is contrary to our better interests as auto enthusiast and shouldn't be taken lightly, as the Algore faction (among others) would have this become compulsory. Danger in allowing a step that direction. Suggest joining the SEMA Action Network if you want to be kept abreast of such matters.

The idea of crushing them is stupid and wasteful.

However, getting a government cash incentive for trading in a clunker for a NEW car that gets 30+ miles per gallon would be good, and it would move a lot of new cars.

How much could I get from the government for this old 63 clunker.

Hmm... Not much...

It doesn't look to be polluting very much at the moment. Wait, is the battery leaking? Maybe it qualifies for a superfund!

You be better of just to let them crush it.
