C6Z : Front Transverse Spring Bushing Damage
Front Transverse Spring Bushing Damage
Anyone else run into a problem w/ this? Looks like a small round black rubber donut. On one side, where the spring meets the lower control arm, the bushing is seriously slanted/crushed/mashed down while the other side is intact and round. What causes this? I am told the entire spring has to be replaced as the bushing and the black bolt that runs through the center of it are not sold separately. Crazy.
Thanks for any insight. How do I prevent it from happening again?
Lightly modied suspension: Pfadt shocks & Hotchkiss sway bars. Never messed w/ the spring.

The crushed bushing was obviously attacked by bushing elves. Replace both sides with a set from West Coast Corvettes ($24.95), they have poly bushings on theirs and that should solve any future problems. I think somebody makes a set with delrin bushings too, but that's probably overkill and more expensive anyway.

This seems to be a common problem on C6's. The rear adjuster can/will actually break across the threads, and the OE parts are not sold by GM. We sell the Delrin spring end kit, the other brand fails rapidly (check out the many threads on other parts of CF about this), whereas we have had this kit in production since 2001 and have never had any failures. Really, $65 is cheap to permanently fix this problem.

Essentially, since Delrin is a low friction material (unlike polyurethane) it emulates a roller tip as David suggested. Also we use stainless steel or plated threads so that it does not seize into the spring like the OE parts.
