They were used on a 91 ZR1. On of the best SCCA racers in
our area had them on his car. These are nice shocks at a great price.
Thanks!
That's kind of funny - I want to upgrade my 88 A stock autocross car but I've got a 91 ZR1 that could be made ready for BSP too. I'm checking to see if the rod could be replaced with one an inch longer and still have them do the job in my 88.
Unfortunately for me, the 88 car was one year before FX3 so my front shock length is 1 inch longer than the 89, 90, 91.... and I'm not sure if it's doable to use a shock that's technically an inch too short.
Do you happen to know what springs they were paired with on that ZR1?

You can. The 8100s are fully rebuildable. Although I think you'd be better off lengthing the body an inch rather than the shaft -- keep the travel the same and not worry about the shaft being too long for the body. You can call any Penske dealer and they should be able to help you out.
Could you please IM me the overaall length, and body length? I have some people interested in them. Or just lay a tape measure along side and post a pic!
shocks are open - as long as they don't change suspension geometry (ride height excluded) and mounting remains the same, reservior shocks are OK. Maybe I'm wrong, but my understadnign, is you'd call it gas pressure adjustment , and that's not considered a damping adjustment.
edit - I'd like to know the length also/ see a picture.
Something I read in the C4 forum led me to think the 88 had an extra inch of room. I think it was wrong because I just measured it. The body before jacking the car up was 12 inches, and 13.5 inches of room to mount them, while the FX3 shock from my ZR1 is 13.4 inches with 15 inches from both mount points.
Here are pics of the shocks. The fronts are 16 1/2" long and the rears
are 18 1/2" long . I measured from the centerline of the heim joints to
the tip of the rod.
