Default Toyo R888

Thinking of running R888s so I can drive to and from events. Will these be noticably better than good street tires and how much will I give up vs. A6s?

They're much better than good street tires, they're no comparison to A6s, not even R6s. You will like them for what they are... I use them daily, and so I can just drive to/from the events...

Unless they are shaved they are not a very good track tire. Once they are shaved to 4/32 they are a decent track tire that is predictable and wares very well. Do yourself a favor and shave them right away. If you run them very hard unshaved they will break up in chunks.

Even for autocross?

They are great for autocross I was 4 seconds faster with them than my regular street tires. They didn't even wear enough to measure. The only bad thing is that I was trying to run them in SMS and they are under the treadwear limit so I got kicked out of the class right away but before I ran they weren't enforcing the rule

They are also quieter on the street than the regular tires but they only have 50 miles on them and an autocross so they may get louder as they wear.

I run Kumho V700's and didn't heat cycle or shave, but I did drive on them for several miles, my own heat cycle, before racing. I haven't had any issues with chunking or irregular wear. I do check temps across tread after runs and temps are consistent. Usually run 34-36psi front and 30-32psi rear.

Thinking of running 265s and 305s - just beyond recommended widths for stock rims. Feedback?

255/295 will sit about 1/2" lower...

I'm a very big fan of this tire. Got me to Laguna in the rain and back thursday, no prob. Tad noisy compared to a good street tire, but very good on a road course. A 200+ compound street tire can't compete with these even cold IMO. Of course they'll go away a whole lot faster too. I run 295/30/19 in back and 275/35/18 in front for now. 1/4" extra per side over stock. 305's in back should be fine ... which is what I should have done. Good luck . . .

You ran a 275 Toyo on 8.5" stockers? No problems, no crowning, etc.? Did the tire store b*tch about mounting them?

I have run mine hard unshaved (about a half dozen track days) and have had no issues.

Sho nuf. Took 4 hands and a lot of soap to get it over the lip but they did it with me staring over their shoulders. That $1600 check I wrote probably eased their pain. Seriously, no problems and many track days.
