Default A6 / R6 Question

Are the A6 Hoosier more of an Autocross tire ..... Where the R6 is more of a Road Racing tire? Would the A6 handle HPDE events?

Yup, that's the idea. As far as A6's on a road course, I would think they will just wear much faster, as their designed operating temp is lower than the R6. No direct experience though, hopefully someone with some will chime in.

there has been a lot of positive feedback on the A6s and they are lasting longer than people expected on the track, but how long I am not sure.

I just switched over to A6s this year so I will be able to collect my own data. I was running R6s.

An A6 will actually handle more heat cycles than the R6, although its overall life will probably be shorter. I use them for road racing. All the top SCCA road racers who run Hoosier use the A6 instead of the R6. They get to operating temp quicker and offer superior grip.

I raced on a new set of R6s once (practice + qual + race = so about 1 hr) and they were okay, but I was not thrilled. Used them about 1 month later in a race only and they simply were not working. I was very disappointed as they were the only set of brand new tires ($1,200) I had bought all year. I have since gone back to scrub A6s.

I would expect a few HPDE weekends out of them. How many depends on how quick you are.

We use the A6 for our T1 C6 car. It's a great tire and will work for the whole race as a sticker or scuffed. Scuffed will extend the life.
The Hoosier racetire is outstanding and so is the support trackside.

I have started a new thread titled, What are the tire pressures you guys are using on track for the A6?

The link to that thread:
