Default can you run Nitto R2 tires bald?

I just did Thunderbolt this Sunday with track time for cars and this track litterally obliterated my tires to bald status.. Can they be safely used as slicks for a few more sessions or should they be replaced with new? They still work fine, but have little to no tread left...

If no cord is showing then they should be safe to use. My Toyo RA-1s are only showing the DOT grooves now, and they work just fine.

HTH, and have a good one,

My Nitto's were like ice when they went bald, but they were also a year old with a lot of heat cycles. If yours are fairly new they should be good if no cord is showing, but check them after every session.

That was my experience as well.

May be redundant- but by bald you mean completely without tread or
some thread but below the 2/32 level ? Mine just went to the tread wear bar- so 2/32 left- OK to run one more day of track time ?

If they are not corded run them on track. I would not however drive to the track on them. Punctures are BAD! FWIW I ran NTR2's to cords on my 1999 Camaro SS all the time.

I just hit Bald status (tread is just a faded line) with my RII's and I can feel them getting a bit greasy, but I will keep them as a back up set for now, there is probably another track day left in them

Thanks for the feedback, I think I will just get a new set to be safe, They do tend to slide alittle more on the street before they are warmed up, but I drove them home from the track practically bald and they hooked and drove great... There is no cord showing but the fronts are almost completely bald. They lasted a whole year... 7 or 8 track days...Thunderbolt is unusually hard on tires though.. I ran Monticello and Limerock with half tread and still had some left after the sessions. I had half tread when I started(thunderbolt) and ended with them bald
