Default PS fluid recommendation?

I give up on the Search function. I haven't had any real problems with my PS system (Z51 cooler stock), but it's been a while and I was wondering what's the current coolest, most awesome, spectacular, fluid to use in a PS system these days.

TIA, and have a good one,
Mike

I had been using off-the-shelf PS fluid in my 87 and track days would cause a fairly loud whine from the pump after a couple sessions. I switched to Red Line Synthetic and the original PS pump is quiet now.

Valvoline Synthetic here. Works great in a C5.

I have used both those, but I think the RL is FULL syn if you are really going to run the car hard.

I used to use the synthetics until someone recommended fluid from Lee (Automotive?) in CA. They do the ps systems for circle track racers. Seems like a good background for knowing what is needed in a tough use environment.
That worked fine for me also. I have no way of knowing if one is better than the other.

That's good news, since that's what I've been running. Fairly easy to find, and no bad news.

Thanks again, and have a good one,

Great thread. I was thinking this weekend that I needed to change mine. Are you guys just sucking it out of the reservoir and refilling?

Also does power steering fluid have a shelf life? I have an unopened bottle of Valvoline Synthetic thats probly a good 6 years old. Think I would be ok using it?

I haven't had to suck it out last year it blew out all over the track!
I had a gut bring a bottle of PS fluid & gave it to me before a race & told me to just go out on the track & pour it out & save all of us some time.
Now as I do the brake fluid I will suck it out of the reservor & refill.
I don't know if it has a shelf life but if it was never opened I would think it would be OK but if it was opened 6 years ago, I would toss it & but new. Just my 2 cents.

Went from Valvoline synthetic blend to RedLine and now to Amsoil (RedLine most commonly recommended) I do ~ 8 track days a year, about 8 autox days a year, and two time trial days a year.
