Default Formula One Spinners?

For those that haven't seen this yet.

Who knew there would actually be a performance benefit to spinners?

There are a lot of pics on this page of cars using these as brake cooling ducts.

One pic in particular that makes it very easy to see.
6th pic down and all the way to the left.

So who's next? CCW, HRE, Fikse?

They're actually aero devices disguised as cooling ducts. (Rules would prohibit their use if they didn't also have a cooling function.) It wasn't until this year that the cooling aspect became so obvious from the appearance -- maybe because of the move back to slicks and the need for more brake cooling.

Yes, they were originally built as a disguised aero aid, the open wheels create a lot of drag and lift, but they immeditately saw the performance benefit of the brake cooling even before the recent change back to slicks. Its funny that they basically did it to pull one over on the rules...and then it actually worked for the reasons the rulebook allowed too. Who knows, before they mastered it on the Escalades and Expeditions they may've never been able to make them look like brake ducts anyway. LOL
