Default Rumors in Washington say the Corvette is dead

There are rumors this week that the Obamanation and his non-car guys are going to kill all performance type cars as well as auto manufacturers involvement in any type of racing. I hope thats not true. Has anyone else heard this?

Yes, after a bailout the government could dictate what cars to build and Corvette would most likely not be one of them.

Rumors abound, no way to know what will happen. But, since I believe the government's capacity for poor management is unlimited, it could be true. If they have a brain (no guarantee there), Corvette will be sold if not maintained in production. It's a very valuable trade name. If that happens, depending on the R&D capacity of the buyer, I expect the days of Corvette as the "value leader" are over.

I would rather see gm go bankrupt than turn into some orwellian car company.

If the UAW (backed by the government) owns a significant part of the company & starts influencing product decisions, I won't buy another GM, new or used. I'll probably give up on my outdated "Buy American" stance & just get Toyotas & Nissans.

Government should have very limited influence on auto model offerings. I can see having a CAFE standard but the new ones don't make sense w/ all the safety standards which force larger, heavier cars. IMHO the safety standards need to be updated for the $4/gallon world. SUVs & trucks use a lot more gas than sports cars driven on the weekend.

Capitalist build cars the people want to buy. Socialists build cars they want people to buy. Then they wonder why nobody buys them.

Yes

brand for brand the Corvette is the only brand that could stand alone. ( silverados and lumped in with Tahoe and Suburbans IIRC )

The Chevy Silverado trucks are also very profitable.

Why would they want to kill profitable brands?

Oh yah. Their democrats.

STOP the aspirin tax. .

^^Not true. Otherwise, why would GM be in the predicament it finds itself in?

^^Hard to tell since that information is not publicly available. I doubt any of GM's cars are making money in this market.

Great, we can't have Corvettes, but our leaders in Washington can fly around on tax payers money. I wonder how much money it cost the tax payer for the "photo op" in NYC with airforce one. That is exactly what they should be doing with tax money during a time when we are having to borrow from China. I hope everyone gets the next election right and we will not have to worry about driving the Pelosi Xi with a single cylinder engine and one headlight.

Word on KFI radio put the photo op price tag at about $328,000.00 when the ground support, fuel, maintenance and fighter costs were totaled! AND they KNEW AHEAD of time, panic was a likely result...

I have a hard time thinking they'll kill all performance vehicles. They can't be stupid enough to see that racing, though non-profit for most involved is a key player, pumping billions into the economy. The Corvette would not be dead, maybe neutered a bit with a TT V6 model for cafe purposes or a little brother of some sort.

Either way if Corvette is even challenged, I'm down for a march on the capital. GM would die without Corvette. I'm all for the Government trying to do something that works, but taking a trash pile and making it a trash heap is unacceptable.

I cant even believe that we are actually having this discussion!!?! Nobama, ugh.
