Default Question ls7 engine 07+ zo6

If you were to rebuilt this engine on a budget, what would be changed out first, to make engine bullet proof?

P.S. NO horsepower increase intended.

other than some random oil pump failures, and the rocker arm bearings, a STOCK LS7 has proven to be very durable.

And valve spring failures? A friend of mine had a spring break while it was idling in his driveway.

the problem with valve spring breakage is that the damage is often done before teh actual failure.. a simple overrev can over heat the springs and begin to weaken them.. then slowly they begin to fail until.. pop.. they break... sometimes in conditions you wouldn't expect (idling in a driveway at a traffic light etc..etc.._)

If the PCM stores and flags over-rev conditions (and I think it does), then this motor was not over-revved. I know because the dealer tried everything they could to keep from warrantying it (tried claiming abuse, track usage, etc). The owner claims he never over-revved it as well. Incidentally, he now owns a Gen 4 Viper.

hmmm

for me, the weakest point is not engine related, it's clutch related. Per the video done by Ranger on the clutches, my clutch fluid looks like crap after every event. The engine has been bullet proof. I boiled the brake fluid today. Time to find better fluid.
