Default NT05 vs XS

Lets try this section.
Anyone have a chance to compare? Nitto NT05 vs Kumho XS for autocross.

Thanks

I've been asking the same question.
I haven't seen anything directly related to autocross since people tend to gravitate to the known "best" setup.
More reviews in context of track days.

Thanks
There seems to be more reviews on the nitto's. Not much out there on the Kumho's although GRM did a comparison in the current issue. Kumho won out but no Nitto in the test.

There's a lengthy thread on the SCCA forum about the Kumho vs Dunlop, directly related to autocross.

That test in GRM was on a relatively light FWD car. Which may or may not be a valid comparison to a vette.
You're right no Nitto's in the test, since I don't think nitto made a tire in the size tested.

I just put a set of Nitto NT05's on my 02 Z06 autox car - haven't put too many miles on them yet, but I have to say, I like them!

I was hoping to find a tire that would allow me to "daily" drive the car - providing smooth and quiet ride. In addition, I wanted to be able to drive to local auto-x events, be extremely competitive on the same tire, then drive home... so far, I'm REALLY impressed!

more to come...

I look forward to hearing more about this because the Toyo R888s are insanely loud tires for daily use.

I have a new set of R888's and NT05's each with one autocross on them, long story but they just won't let me run in the local SMS class anyways NT05's are a much better quieter tire for a normal street tire. With that said they of course don't have near the grip which is expected since the R888 is basically a race tire. I can't comment on wear since I only have one autocross on either set and driving back and forth from the autocross to home.

Do those Toyo's give similar noise feedback approaching grip limits that a street tire would give, or closer to an r compound?

Looking at both of these tires, it seems like the XS has more contact patch on the ground and can take more negative camber than the NT-05. These are options for us C6 Z06 owners.

I need to run a street tire so they don't bump me to Race Car category in this region. Now I run with GT3's, GT3RS, F430, GT-R...etc. So i need to get the best street tire that is better than the run craps and still be in the same class.

My fastest competitor is a GT3 running Corsa Semi-Slicks and always .8-1.2 sec faster than me on run craps when both of us have perfect laps. I only win 1st place if he screw up because of the stock run craps. I need to make a choice on one of these tires so I can guarantee 1st place always.

I hope the XS or NT-05 will give me the extra 1.5 sec a lap i need to level the field.

Corsas blow away both of these tires. They have a 60 treadwear... I wish they made them in C6 sizes. I'm not sure you're gonna get a full second from F1s to Kumhos.

The Corsas should be considered a race tire anyway.

The F1's are really bad. I think NT05 or XS should at least give me 1 sec in a 1:30 min track with lots of turns and minimal straights. If i put Semi-Slicks such as Corsal and Mich Cups they would bump my stock Z06 with Modified GTR's, Modified GT2's, Scuderia's, RX7's with V8's etc... which is not fair.

The Corsa dropped that GT3 time from low 1:28.xx to high 1.26.xx. By the way, the GT3 runs Mich Cups which is also a very good tire.

I like my NT-05's. I have put ~3500miles on them. Ran the BBORR on them and an AutoX so far. They are very predictable and have decent stick they aren't an R compound but still very good.

Nitto recommends 40 psi hot. my rear camber is -1.1 and at 39 psi hot the rear wear is perfect after two track days and the rear holds great. The fronts are showing some inside wear at -2.0 camber at 37 psi hot. I'll make some changes and see what happens. Like the tires so far though. How is the rear wear at -1.5 camber? My toe is zeroed out front and rear.

I'm running nytrus (spell wrong ) because it's not suppose to change much, I'm now running 33 cold all around.

Can't talk about the Nitto's but I have one event on the XS and I like them. Stock C6 with the F55 suspension running -1 camber up front and -.5 in the rear. Of course I am coming off non supercar runflats but what a differnce. 36psi front, 32 rear. Slight over steer when cold but once they warmed up a bit stuck like glue.
