Default Simpson Firesuit Size

I'm about to order a Simpson Firesuit but before I do, I have question on sizing. Do their sizes run larger or smaller than their chart would say? This is their size chart:

.................SIMPSON STD. DRIVING SUIT SIZE CHART...................

Size....Chest....Waist......Hip...Inseam ..Neck.....Height.......Weight (lb)
SM.....30-34....26-30....33-37....31.....14.5....5'5"-5'7".......115-130
MD.....34-38....30-34....37-41....32.....15.5....5'7"-5'10".....140-165
LG......38-42....34-38....41-45....33.....16.5....5'10"-6'2".....175-200
XL......42-46....38-42....46-49....34.....17.5....5'11 & over...210-225
XXL....46-50....42-46....49-53....35.....18.5....5'11 & over...235-250

I'm a slim guy and according to the chart I fit all of the medium sizes except chest. I'm about 39.5" in the chest but all other medium measurements fit me according to chart. I don't want to order a medium and be too small in the chest but on the other hand I don't want to order a large to fit my chest and then be too big everywhere else. I don't want to spend the big bucks for a custom made suit. Anyone that has a Simpson Suit please comment on sizing. How close to the real size of your suit match the chart? Do they run larger or smaller than the chart would indicate? Are any of the measurements off in the chest, waist, hip, inseam, neck, height or weight? I need all the input I can get on this. Thanks ahead of time for any input.

How close are you to Mooresville, NC? Simpson has an eastern retail store there. That way you could try them on. The address and phone number are:
Simpson World East
185 Rolling Hills Road
Mooresville, NC 28117

Email: rwaggoner@teamsimpson.com
Toll Free 800-473-7077
Phone 704-662-3366
Fax 704-662-3360
Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM till 5:30 PM

Friday - 9:00 AM till 5:00 PM
Saturday-9:00 AM till 12:00PM
Sunday- Closed

Another thing you could try is a local circle track race shop. My local guy orders helmets and suits in and lets people try them on to see if they fit. He ordered 2 Simpson Helmets and 2 Impact Helmets the last time I had to buy one. If none of those were satisfactory he would have ordered something else.

You want a fire suit to fit loosely for practical reasons. It should NOT fit tight. It may look cool in pictures, but in case you actually have a fire, it will burn you wherever it's tight.

Are you set on the Simpson brand? Because I know you can have a Safequip/Racequip suit custom made to your particular body size without spending "big bucks".

Thanks for your input. Yes, I've thought about that, been down there once before to buy a helmet a couple years ago. It's about 175 miles or almost 3 hours away. I was trying to avoid the trip if possible but it may be the best solution. Thanks again.

Yes I agree, I just don't want a suit that's huge on me either. I guess too big is better than too small. I would just like to know before I order. I may have to just go try them on as Bill Dearborn suggested. Thanks for the reply.

I would prefer Simpson but I'm not dead set on it. I'm still shopping around. The Simpson I was looking at was Made in the U.S.A., which is a + in my book. I'm sure many others are also made in the U.S.A. too though, particularly if you ordered a custom made suit. I'm still looking. Thanks for your input.

The Custom sized suit brands I mentioned are hand made right in Irmo, SC. Their off the rack suits may not be. Let me know if you want the contact info to get a custom suit.

Yes, send me some info, please. Like I said I'm still looking and shopping. I'm open to all ideas on a firesuit. Do they have a web site?

They have a website but it isn't exactly the best way to get info on their custom suits.

http://www.tracksidetim.com is the previous owner of Safequip before selling to Racequip and from what I understand, he still has the rights to build the custom suits under their name. They built my Suit and it's excellent. You can also talk to John at http://www.turbojohn.com/mall

John basically works with Tim.

Thanks for the info. I don't think I need to get a custom made suit. I looked at their standard sizeing charts and looks like by their chart I could get a med tall and that would fit fine, where when I looked at Simpson sizeing chart it was difficult to find a size that would fit properly. I appreciate you pointing me in that direction.
