Default Road Atlanta HPDE 1

Just finished my first track event and I had a blast. It was extremely hot and humid, my runflats were awful, I had zero experience but none of that mattered. I had a great instructor who taught me a lot and always had a great attitude. He seemed to be having as much fun as I was which made the experience even better. I can't wait to go to my next event.

Most of my laps were in some sort of traffic, but here is one clean one that I found starting at the Mazda Bridge. Feel free to give advice and criticize as long as you point out specifics. If you say I messed up the line in 3(I did) then please tell me how to fix it or show me a video with the correct line. I have a lot to learn, and will take any help I can get.

The audio is edited for content so that is why it is muted in a couple places like 3. Hit HQ in the bottom right corner for higher quality.

Welcome to the addiction - glad you had a good time in the heat at RA.

I watched your video, looked great - that was a workable racing line and sounded like you were having fun, which is the most important thing.

If your goals in HPDE are having fun and enjoying your car (which are excellent goals, btw) then just keep doing what you're doing! If you're ultimately searching to run some sort of competition with your car - or another for that matter - I highly recommend supplementing your track time with some autocross events. The quickness of autoX will serve you well on the racetrack and help your comfort level rise quicker.

Have fun out there!

Autocrossers suck on road courses.

Glad to see that you ended up with one of the instructors we spoke about. Jake is one of the best. His enthusiasm is second to none (I'd love to hear the unedited version of an entire session). He has a way of making it all make sense.

I'm impressed with your driving. You were pushing the car pretty hard for a first timer. Looks like you have a lot of natural ability.

Now do yourself a favor and hide your wallet.

I was there this weekend as well. Had a blast, despite the heat! Although not my first HPDE, it was my first event with NASA. I love having someone in the right seat as a coach. I really feel like I learn a ton from each instructor.

Which Vette were you?

I was the Black 02 Z06 number 21... Mike Werner was my instructor.

yeah but my heart rate is @ 200.

Jason hits the wall, flicks a cigarette out the window, grins, fixes the car, then turns around and beats me like nothing ever happened.

Check out his sun time on mylaps, 1 tenth quicker than sat. It was a bunch hotter on Sun (later in the day) and his R6's had to be well used by then.

I think I could have matched my sat time on sun's first session, but I only had 1 clean lap, and I screwed it up...bobbled in 5, and braked early going into 10. lost time on both

it's all good close racin'

I think if we both show up on stickers in Dec, and it's a nice 50-60 degree day, you're gonna see some TTA times This past weekend was certainly lousy weather for going fast

Red C5 #187. Jake Englund was my instructor. I remember seeing your car out there. I was impressed by how hard the C5Zs and that blue C6 could pull down the straights. Luckily there were some Miatas to make me feel like a racer.

Thanks again for the recommendation. Sorry, but the full unedited version of the session is banned in the US.

Whatever.

I tried my best to make you crap your pants Friday, but you just shook it off.
I have video, but the zoom was full on and all you can see is about a 12 inch patch in front of the car.
