Nitto 555R2 vs Hoosier R6
I'm presently running the Nitto 555R2s on my C5 Z06 for HPDE events, and I've about gotten my moneys worth out of my second set. I'm thinking about switching to the Hoosier R6 and I need imput from you guys. No problem at all with the Nittos, I'm just looking for a little more grip. Anybody out there have any words of wisdom? Has anyone used both types of tire?

Haven't used both. There were some Hoosiers at VIR offered to us for a session; everyone liked the extra grip. Can't drive the car to events that way though unless you do the tire-trailer thing. The Nittos can be retired to street duty when near cord.

I've run both for several events. The 555R2 offers a lot of grip for what it is and really is (imo) a much better HPDE tire since it lasts longer and gives much more feedback like a street tire will. The R6 obviously has much more grip, but requires more from the car to really utilize. You'll need a lot more camber or you'll just waste a bunch of money fast. If you're just lapping, I'd stay with the 555R2.

Take a look at the Nitto nt-01's. Same treadwear rating as the 555RII but a more favorable tread pattern and section. They should be a bit faster in the dry.
I got about 30 heat cycles and a couple thousand street miles out of a set and I really liked them. Very predictable and well-behaved even when clapped out and wildly too hot.
They're relatively cheap, too.

Most ppl will get twice as much millage or sessions out of the Nittos and street miles.

Burning Brakes
I've used both the NT01 and the 555 quite a bit. Agree with the above posts. They both wear very well. If you drive them on the street I'd stick with the 555 because of its tread pattern. If you haul them to the track I think the NT01 is a little better, it offers a bit more grip. When the tread pattern wears off you end up with two grooves around the circumference and can flip them on the rim to extend the wear on the shoulder.

I had the 555RIIs and really loved the grip from them. I now run R6's and the grip for me... only feels slightly better, you will at least get double the amount of use from the RII's. I also just ran the Dunlop slicks for the first time at an event at the Glen and got really good lap times but also paid for it and lost oil pressure...
IMO - RII's are a great buy !!
