Safety Car
R888s *howl* way before they lose grip and I can hardly hear them on your video.
Is the camera a little loose in the mount? Occassionally it'll do a left-right-left kind of shake after you've cornered... if that's your action on the wheel you'll want to try to clean it up because it doesn't seem like you're correcting for anything the car is doing.
Seat time, seat time, seat time. I know you're fighting some alignment issues and you had a spin in another thread, but I think you just need more time to get used to the car and tires and what they're capable of. FWIW, I had Tim Barber up at Infineon align and corner weight my car -- I drive the R888s on the street, to the track, on the track and home again. We'll see how the alignment works out...
I can't wait to get out there Friday. I won't have video, but I should be able to bring back some data logs! I fought through a bunch with the car and set up the last couple of years and, on the street, the car is feeling the best it ever has so hopefully it'll translate over to the track!

stop coasting. you need to be either on the gas or on the brake. there is no need to be at less than 100% throttle when you are going in a straight line. it is better to have to brake earlier than to coast into the braking zone.
the trick someone showed me a while back is to short shift and practice pinning the gas pedal to the floor. helps to develop the muscle memory of doing it you can also put a sticky note on your speedometer that says "no coasting". I am serious. your brain really plays tricks on you with this and you have to sort of unlearn lifting when it is not needed.
you will find yourself catching up to a lot of people towards the end of straightways once you master this simple skill

I didn't spot any dyno numbers there, but there was talk of 700HP

The forum I got the video link from had the GTR at 580 hp and the Stang at 700 hp.
Mitch,
A little fear means you are sane. However, you should get on the gas earlier when exiting a corner. Watch videos of fast drivers and compare when they get on the gas compared to you. To build up confidence in your braking, pick a spot on the track were you have to do hard braking but you have somewhere to go straight off if you run out of room. Push the car to progressively higher speeds into that braking zone until you run out of room. Also, track pads offer more brake torque and disapate heat better. Add cooling ducts. Did you make it into fourth between 7,8,9?

I like the training video... I agree with the coasting. There's fear at the higher speeds primarily because the car feels numb. (the low speed spin didn't help either)
I'll take the advice and change the car setup for hopefully more confidence.
The pads are Hawk HP Plus. They seem to work pretty well - but after running a few laps, the pedal travel is significantly longer. But they haven't faded. The fluid is fresh ATE blue.

likely uneven pad wear and pad taper. flip them from one side to another in the middle of the day. you can also "double pump" the pedal going into a braking zone for a more consistent feel. HP Plus is not a great pad for the track.

My all time favorite - Randy Pobst hops in a forum members C5Z for a little suspension evaluation:

Everybody was complaining about grip yesterday, even the guys on Hoosiers. I was on Toyo R888s (275f, 305r). This particular lap was a 2:07, I was fighting warped brake rotors all day so my brake zones are looking long. This was my first day out with the DRM coilovers at Thunderhill and I really need to trust the grip they offer... I'm late in to the throttle all over the place...
