Sometimes you'll hear/feel a grinding when turning one direction, that'll tell you which side it's on. With the car in the air, try to move the rim in and out at the top and bottom. If there is any movement, the bearing is bad. Or you might get an ABS failure. Or they might just snap with no warning.

Snap!!!!! I don't want it to snap at 90mph turn in the track.

Anyone had a story of a bearing snapping? If yes, what happened?

I have seen this happen three times and luckily the wheel never came off. It just flops around on the hub. The flange weld breaks. That’s why I switched to the SKF.

Yes it happened, it happened ~95 mph at T1 Roebling. Brake caliper kept wheel on car.

Mine just started making a growling noise, kind of like driving on my noisy Toyo R888s but it would make that noise even with the quieter Michelin street tires on the car.

I check them when I change my tires.

Any kind of clicking, time for a new one.

I've check for cracks if you have flange issues.

I spent the $$ and went for some race bearings.

And a good driver kept the car out of the woods.

I noticed a high speed vibration, and being able to move the wheel up an down with the load off the tire. Thanks for finding that Greg.

I had a right rear bearing failure on my C5.

First indication was a slight grinding sound in left turns that sounded like it was coming from the back of the car. Thought it might be the differential too. It got much worse over the next few days. When the repair shop moved the wheel up & down or side to side, it moved quite a bit. That confirmed it was a bad bearing, not the differential.

My technique every time I lift the car in the air: (works for both front and rear)

hands at 9 and 3, wiggle, if you get play, it can be either the rod end OR bearing

hands at 12 and 6, wiggle, if you get play, its probably the bearing, if no play, but you got play at 9 and 3, its the probably the rod end

But sometimes, the play can also be caused by the knuckle mounting bolts (also called spindle or upright)......always double check these when you have your car up and tires off.

You will go through hubs if you track your car heavily. It is a consumable for the season if you do.

Well my car handled like i had to much rear brake bias, could not figure out why it behaved like that.
I always run with all systems OFF.
handled like this

Then warnings came on , regarding ABS malfunction, IF you get these warnings, drive directly to pit, or you will experience this, luckily on a slow part of track my ABS shut down, flatspotted two brand new Hoosiers

here is my bearing

SKF will hopefully cure this
