Some of the early cars used Rolls Royce aircraft engines. They were 16 litres and I believe 12 cylinders. If you want to get picky and consider more than one engine, Tommy Ivo a drag racer in the late 60's had a car with 4 Buick engines that equalled almost 1400 Cubic inches. Many weird combinations out there.

That's pretty beefy, but the American built Allison V-1710 was 1710c.i (hence the name) and was used post war in race cars and race boats as well.

The Rolls Royce Griffon displaced 2240 C.I. but that's nothing compared to a Pratt & Whitney R-4360 (yes, 4360 C.I.) radial engine but you would be hard pressed to fit that in a car.

Check this out
