Default Help me control my high oil temp

Summer in Miami is not exactly cool temp wise, typical track day is between 90-105 F

I have a Katech Street Attack w Kooks headers LSXR intake etc

I drive her hard on the track, I run fast and I'm always under HARD acceleration and shift around 6k and added a louvered hood to help get some heat out. I also wrapped the oil line under the header

I've added twin oil coolers w fans, Lingenfelter sump, Comp oil pump, Comp radiator and I'm using the right oil

but I'm still seeing oil temp over 260 which Ive been told is the oil temp as it leaves the engine

Last event I was forced to slow down in the infield to keep the temps in the 250 range which sort of defeats the purpose of being on the track

Do I need to wrap the headers ? Could there be some blockage ? WTH is up w my crazy oil temps ?

Thanks

About 260ish sounds about what I'd expect from that car in those conditions. Anything under 290 is great IMO.

260s is not bad.

Clean out the radiators with an air hose.

What Oil and wt are you using?

if its not at least 40 wt then that is something else to look at.

when oil temps starts climbing above 260, and coolant above 220 HP drops quickly

My mechanic was already worried about 260 I think he'd be losing his mind if I said 280

Have any of you w C6 Z06s added a temp probe elsewhere ?

Thanks

Is loss of HP from the ECU retarding ignition timing or heat soak?

Jason is right. 290* is a good number to stay under. Your coolers are working just fine.

there are tons of guys running LS6's with oil temps over 300...........260 is fine.

However, if you insist, give us more info about the types of coolers you are running, and how they are ducted. You need lots of airflow through the coolers, and the type of cooler can make a big difference.

Hey guys. My oil temp was getting up to about 285-290 at Hot Atlanta this summer. I started backing out of it on the back strait after I noticed that.

I am running Mobil 1 5w-30. Should I move up to a heavier weight? I guess I should invest in an oil cooler setup also.

Thanks,

Mike

my guess would be both but it's a guess. I use to feel my LS-1 just go real flat at the 60% point of a session.

But how much air gets though those coolers with the nose on ?

Have a pic of the front of your car?

I was at 295 on my modded LS1 but after adding a cooler I was hitting 260 at the Glen in 100 degree weather.. My raceshop wasnt worried about those numbers at all. Has yours told you specifically why he's worried about that number? maybe theres more to the story? FWIW, I run M1 15-50

Twin racing-style oil cooler system for the C6 and Z06 Corvette. Oil is the blood of your engine and as oil temps raise oil pressure drops. This system will drop oil temps on the track by about 45 degrees. Our last test with a stock Z06 oil cooler - temps were 275 and above after a 30 min event. With our new BPP twin oil cooler system, temps dropped to a very safe 235 degrees after 45 min of hard track driving. Professional installation is recommended. Call for more details.
I think you now need to be their new test driver.

Others are more experienced than I am but I agree...260 isn't a problem. I run in Arizona where it's often hot and see 270+ frequently. I think fresh oil helps you run a little cooler. Also, I put some metallic HVAC (foil) tape on the oil filter to help reflect heat away from the filter.

I agree with above.......where is the air coming from that feeds the coolers, and where does it go when it leaves? Are you removing the fog lights, drawing air from below the nose, or what????

While it's good that you aren't "stealing" air from the radiator, you gotta move air through those coolers!

fog lights were deleted so the air comes in through there

air exits through large hole in liner into wheel well

There is a fan behind each cooler

Will try some reflective tape on filter & see if that helps

Thanks

I'm amazed that you temps are only hitting 260 with air to the cooler coming through a 2 inch hole on each side.
