Look at Aiptek.
I got a Hi Def model. it will accomodate 16 GB SD cards. Battery lasts ~2 hours. Paid $114 at Target about 6 months ago.

Melting Slicks
I have a Canon video camera mounted to my harness bar.
It works ok but it is difficult for me to get to the power switch to turn it on once I'm strapped in. I have a remote to start/stop. The camera shuts itself off if I don't start recording in a few minutes. When on the grid I have to start/stop the camera every minute or so to keep it on.
It is small but I think it is still too big and heavy to mount safely to the windshield with a suction cup.
Looking for something better. I like some of the data acquisition systems with camera(s) integrated. Will get one of these sometime.
What don't you like about the Go Pro?
On their website they show one mounted on the front of the car. I was wondering if it shuts off after a while of inactivity like my Canon or does it stay on until you turn it off. I'm guessing it has some sort of remote.

I think you can go into the menu and turn the auto-off off and it won't do that any more. At least that's what I did with my Panasonic GS180.
Give it a try.

I use a Sanyo Xacti HD1010 - now available at Amazon for about 1/2 off.
It can do 1080p, 60fps, control focus and shut off stabilization. I have added a wide angle lens.
- never mind the driving
- but be sure to click HD
(The outside pics are from a much pricier camera - not mine)

This is very cool, camcorder and data acq in one package:
http://www.smartycam.com/index_eng.htm
You can plug it into your OBD 2 port and get alot of data such as wheel speed, yaw rate, acceleration, speed, steering angle, etc as well as the built in GPS overlayed on the video. Really, the only way to go for an all in one system for your car, Kart, boat, etc.
