Default Had my first encounter with a lubricated track...

I was running out at Motorsports Ranch (MSR) today. About halfway through ricochet (a 70 MPH left hand off-camber corner) the car just... snapped. I blinked and suddenly the car was backwards and headed into the tall grass.

Both feet in, but I recall thinking to myself- "I don't seem to be stopping..." I actually looked down to make sure my foot was on the brake pedal. When I looked up, I saw a Miata come around the same corner and... lose control as well. Luckily they had called a yellow flag just before he got to the corner, but he still was headed straight for me...

By that time, I was nearly 100 yards from my initial track exit point and finally stopped. The Miata managed to regain the car and only then did I look over and see a Boxster sitting on the edge of the track, another 100 yards aways, clearly broken. Seems he had blown a coolant hose and lubricated the previous corner.

I did not think a car could physically swap ends that fast. One second I'm in perfect control, the next second I'm lawnmowing backwards...

Always an adventure at the track!

Nothing worse than a snap spin at speed without warning caused by fluid on the track. You're just along for the ride...glad you and the car are OK.

Hey Swimmer, glad it turned out okay. Which car are you tracking these days? I'm sure this got your full attention.
I think I dislike coolant worse than oil.

I have a '95 C4 for DE's now. Decided that rolling my convertible C5 would end very badly for me.

So now I have two!

same reason I swapped my vert for Z06.
I miss the 50th, but I like having something more substantial than canvas over my head!

What's with Porsches and coolant hoses??? They should all have a warning label visible to other drivers, "WATCH FOR ANTIFREEZE!".

Yes I did get it replaced, however, I have not put a corvette on the track since then. Just part of the game. Was definitely fun while it lasted!

Quite often leaked coolant is harder to see than oil. I'm glad you and the car are OK.

Seems like the 3rd time that has come up here. Are they getting their clamps from China?
