Default T1 Corvette Brakes

News flash!!!

The use of aftermarket brakes has been unofficially approved for C5s and C6s in T1!

Per Peter Keane:

Competitors can select a one or two piece (split into two halves) caliper of aluminum alloy with a maximum of four pistons and two brake pads per wheel. Replacement brake rotors may be used provided the replacement is of the same material and is within five percent of the OEM brake rotor dimension. One piece rotors may be replaced with two piece design (hat and disc).

We have not determined how we will equal the playing field for people that chose to install aftermarket brakes. We do believe that aftermarket brakes will be a competitive advantage. This is not offical until you see it in Fastrack. PK

Edit: Sorry, but in the rush to post this I murdered the title. Trust me, I do know how to spell Corvette!

max of 4 pistons? that really cuts down the choices. Off the top of my head, that only leaves you with stoptech or brembo.

Also, this says the rotor needs to be basically the same size as the stocker? There are no stoptech or brembo kits that do that.

Wilwood SL4. Comes with Thermolocks by default. Same pads as the SL6 and works with 13in rotors. Not sure about piston volumes, though... :-/

I run 4 piston Alcons and they will work with a 13" rotor

interesting. I just knew that the sl4's were used on the rear, so I assumed they'd be no good up front.

cool! You don't run 13" rotors though right? Would they need a custom mount?

Looking at the piston choices for the SL4, you'd be 100% correct about that. :-(

I run 14" but have considered 13 if it wasn't for cost, I believe mine are custom anyways

These are the Brembo GT-R Monobloc brake calipers I pulled off my the Beast (when I went to a full endurance system). I put up a post to sell them a short while back but most people weren't familiar with the GT-R line and how good they are so I let the thread die. Of course I considered selling the car too as I hated the stock brakes.

Now maybe they'll be going directly on my T1 car. Or maybe I'll install them and sell the car with the brakes.

The real problem that is about to arrive is that the C5's with the 17X10 in the front will be very limited on what caliper will fit behind the wheel.

they can't run 18's? Without 18's this is pretty much a useless rule.

C6's can run 18's. Another nail in the T1 coffin for the C5.

This is much needed, especially with some new tires coming out soon. We have a new AP Racing caliper option that is compliant with the rules, has thick, very common pads from many brake companies, super stiff design, stainless steel pistons with anti-kickback springs and is affordable at around $900 a corner with the Corvette adapter. The piston sizes are compatible with the OE master cylinder as well.
We have a new rotor for C5's and C6's that are shipping now. The hat allows cooling air to be ducted to the far side of the rotor to cool it more evenly for longitivity.

New Hardbar C5/C5 rotor on C5 with slide rail calipers:

Some of the fast Mustangs use Brakeman 4 piston calipers:

Not at all! The AP shown is a 4 piston, as well as the PFC Zr33 which we have had great success and stock adapters and parts for as well. The issue is wheel clearance, not in diameter as much as rotor to spoke clearance. Older 3 piece CCW's win not fit. I hope they allow 6 piston's as well, because the only caliper that would work with the older wheels is the skinny Wilwood SL-6R and that is a 6 piston. The 6 piston versus 4 piston debate is not a real issue from either a cost or performance standpoint, that should be open.

probably won't fit under ccw classics without some substantial spacers, but some of the 1 piece ccw's should work.
