Default C4 Fender Flares

Thought I would share my excellent experience with a set of rear fender flares for my C4 raced in NASA and SCCA. Needed to add something after installing larger tires and could not find any flares. None of the Chevy dealers I contacted had any, or even knew what I was talking about. Did some searches and found that someone I already knew has them. Turns out that Aaron Quine (rasrboy here on CF) has made some.

They arrived in time to be installed for an upcoming race. Quality is excellent, finish is very smooth and they come already with primer, so you just paint and install. Installation is a breeze. Just have to remove the wheel, position the flare, drill from the underside of the fender, and rivet. Two-sided tape may be applicable for some uses, but the conditions in racing require rivets. If you are looking for something like this, it is an immediate solution.

The attached pictures show the finished job. The standard mounting would be down against the trim line, but because I had installed 18” tires, I had to radius the opening to avoid rubbing on track. That was required without the flares. I radiused the wheel opening to match the curve of the flare. I have not painted mine, and may not. That is how good they are finished, although some may prefer to have the same color as the body and avoid the color contrast.

This is a product I highly recommend for any C4 owner wanting or needing flares. Front flares are available also, but did not need them at this time.

Ed

Aarons prices are pretty low when bought in pairs also. Great for anyone looking for GS flares.

Thanks Ed, glad they worked out for you. Heck, my primer damn near matched your hood so why paint them!

A few pictures of the front export flares that GM discontinued years ago. I bought the fronts & rears MANY years ago from my GM parts dealer for my red C4 racer. I just recently decided to pay to have molds made of all 4 Just incase something were to ever happen to mine like an oops at the track or something. I own the molds so my glass guy can do some up for anyone.

Also, you can see the backs are smoothed over not to copyright the original product.

Here are some more pictures:

I may be interested in a set for the front. Do you trim the hood in order to increase clearance?

I did on my red car pictured cause I was running 335's at all 4 corners plus it is SLAMMED to the ground. But you don't have to pending your application.

The addition of the flares provide how many inches of cover past the lip of the fender? front? rear? Can a group 3 (NCCC) car use these flares and stay in group 3? I assume they can also be taped and screwed on?

They are legal in Group 3. They are also legal in Group 2 if you leave the factory fender in tact.

Any pictures? We run 315's in the front, the car is absolutely slammed to the ground and we're having some nasty rub issues on the top of the hood, towards the outside edge. It's through the fender liner and is starting to wear on the fiberglass a little bit. I'll try and get some pics to show you to see if these will help solve it at all..

We have a set of GS flares on the rear, glassed in (looks awesome) and once I trimmed out the inner fender we increased the "clearance" about an inch on the outside. The previous owner who did the glassing didn't trim away the inside edge and it would rub pretty heavily on the 335 hoosiers in back.

I will get some UP CLOSE pictures this monday for you guys from the inside and out. Stay tuned here and I will add the pictures in this same thread. I will also measure the added width as well and let you know. If you think you may want a pair or set send me a PM so I can get the fiberglass guy to start humping on these as the requests are coming in.

I am at VIR right now for the 13 hour race, but will be in and out of the trailer checking PM's and such.

Thanks a bunch Aaron. I'm out of the game until March or so due to this whole... snow thing, so no major rush.

Aaron, I want the flare to look like its stock at a first glance, would I be able to cut the factory flare away and mold these in or are they to thick since they are made to sit on top?

That's what Aaron and I were talking about. That's exactly what I did in the rear of my car, the flares are glassed in, painted to match and then I trimmed the inner fender (the old body / fender) out so it looks like they belong.

Great idea, I think your grandpa would love to help you out on that. He is the master fiberglass guru.

I think they look bad A$$ just taped on too, especialy in the front. I just can't bring my self to cut up any more of my red car, maybe I should just sell it to a good home.

Let me know when you are ready Mike and I will get you a set. I would even hand deliver them and help with the install neighbor.

The question was asked about pictures showing how far the flares and/or tire sticks out. The attached pictures show what it looks like from above and rear. The tire tread surface, not including sidewall, extends 1” out from the fender flare. There is a spacer roughly ¾” thick on the rear, so that can be possibly be reduced.
