Default Video: Monticello Motor Club Full Course

Here's an in-car video of a time trial lap run with COMSCC on 4-May-2010 at Monticello Motor Club. The 2:40.7 lap was good enough for 2nd in COMSCC's SPA class and 4th overall.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NwQSyH6DU8

The car is a 2006 base C6 with double adjustable Penske racing shocks with dual rate coilover springs. Gary at HardBar and Richard at Leading Edge Motorsports have both been a great help in setting up this car.

It is also a daily driver with 55,000 miles on it since I bought it in Mar-2006.

Excellent video, I have run there with PDA/ NASA but we were limited to the south coarse, I would love to run the full coarse.

The video is captured by a Vio POV 1.5 bullet cam with solid state recorder http://www.vio-pov.com/products/pov_15m.php and those go for $485 at Amazon. The key feature is that it has a global shutter instead of a rolling shutter that most CMOS cameras have, even high-end ones. If you do have a CMOS rolling shutter camcorder, it has to have 60fps capture rate or it results in jellyvision. My Canon Vixia HF200 is a high end HD camcorder, but at 30fps with the rolling shutter it makes awful video.

The POV 1.5 is not HD, but it does record to an SD card in DVD resolution. With the 8GB SD card that comes with it you can record six hours of video. If you buy the Vio POV 1.5M system, it comes with a cigarette lighter adapter so you don't ever run out of batteries or have to charge them.

The TrackVision software that does the video overlay is another $195. It can read a number of different data logger formats so what you spend on a datalogger can vary a lot.

Bert

very nicely done! You just got me totally jazzed up, I can't wait for 5/17 - I'm going there with SCDA, full course. (I think PDA and BMW are also getting full course days?) Only my second time on that track so your in car was real helpful. -Dan
