IMO, regardless of whether the airbag is active or not, I say full face.

I made the mistake of getting an open-face helmet. I've been hit in the eyebrow and on the bridge of the nose by flying tire boogers - it stings! A hit square in the pupil would be ugly - if I didn't wear corrective eyeglasses it would be damn dangerous.

I always wear a full face helmet with my shield down. Even in a closed cockpit car wih the windows down I have been hit by stuff too.

Full Face. Not just for safty but rememeber you MUST run window open. You know how ****ty is it to get pouring rain in your face on the track at 120 mph!

They allow you to run with the windows up? The track events I have gone too have been windows down, even in rain

yes -- but i know the organizers and have a competition license, etc. at HPDE speeds there's no way i could have a problem outside of mechanical failure and they know that.

i've been hit in the eye by a small tire marble entering 140mph kink. no permanent eye damage thankfully. not an experience I would wish on anyone - driving a lap to exit the track with one eye closed and tears pouring down my face was not fun either.

Open-face: has no shield.

I've been delaying getting a closed-face helmet until the snell 2010 ones come out (October?). But perhaps that will drive down the price of 2005 helmets and I'll get one of those. We'll see...

oh sorry, i was thinking of open face as the type without a chin bar yet still has the shield (which is what i use). the kind that's just a skull cap is utterly stupid!

not having the chin bar is just more comfy especially when you have a headset to slide in for talking to the passenger.

This is what I consider to be full face, with or without a shield
