Anybody know a way to record this? I'd like to watch all 6 hours - even if it's crappy Internet streaming - but can't do the entire thing at once.

Yeah, and don't think you're gonna be getting the full 6 hours during that week-later broadcast. In fact, don't even think that you'll be getting a normal 2.5-3hr broadcast block for a "regular" 2h45m race. Nope, you'll be getting 1.5 hrs that will include interviews and color pieces as well. Factor that and the commercials out, and I'm guessing we'll get *maybe* 45 min of racing. Fantastic. I guess CBS is taking its cue from the stellar examples of well-delayed, compacted-- and "feature-rich", haha!-- coverage that World Challenge has enjoyed of late. Well done.

So, what's left? Grand Am? I guess anything backed up by NASCAR will enjoy flag-to-flag coverage of every practice session, as well as crocheting and knitting specials featuring its fans. Oh, and probably a trackside talent show, too...cause THAT's about racing.

Fred

P.S. Dammit! I left out THE BEST racing there is, which enjoys the same amount of coverage as Laguna will get next Saturday...every night: Pinks!

What if no one else wants to do it?

Don't forget that ALMS *agrees* to these deals. ALMS wants to be on broadcast TV every now and then so they hopefully get themselves in front of NEW folks instead of the loyal fans that already have and watch SpeedTV. Preaching to the choir doesn't grow the fan base.

No broadcast TV network will *ever* show a 6-hour endurance race live (or even tape delayed.) Not enough ratings points are ever going to come from that form of racing (at least not in the U.S.) to enable that. A broadcast that long is almost guaranteed to cut into local news shows and/or prime time and the local affiliates would scream bloody murder (or just not carry ANY of it.)

Even SpeedTV will cut away in an instant if they have to show a rerun of last year's "Cooking Burgers With Dick Trickle." They didn't show the driver interviews after the Monaco F1 race because they had to get to "NASCAR Today" or some such nonsense crap.

It's just like 90% of the so called streaming content on the web. It only works for the fastest of connections. Unfortunately my DSL is at the end of the line and only musters 500 kbps so the stream stops and stalls more than it plays.

Aggravates me because I know they can make it stream and look decent but they all want to go as high def as they can.

wow, you have a short memory. just this year, SPEED showed almost all of the 12 hours of Sebring live.

i'm sure they would have loved to show this race, but remember that this race is new this year (used to be 4 hrs in October) and wasn't scheduled until very late. obviously there were conflicts with other programming and ALMS doesn't pay well enough.

rather than complain, i'm sad. it highlights the continued decline of ALMS. GTC, then LMPC, and now not even live coverage of one of the top 3 ALMS events of the year (Sebring, Petit, Laguna).

it'd be nice if they had 2 cameras per corner, one guy focuses on prototype and one guy focuses an GT. then you could watch either race or both together. if directv can put up multiple simultaneous tennis matches then they can give us multiple cameras for multiclass racing!

Well, warts and all, it was still better than most race coverage. hell, I'd actually pay to see such things instead of the standard 45 minutes of commercials per hour

Thanks for the info, the announcers and camera crews did a great job. Was a great race. Very good. I really enjoyed the GT coverage.

Wonder if they are going to get to stream Le Mans. Could you imagine getting most or all of the 24 hours? Only thing missing was in car footage.
