Street tire choice for rookie auto-x events
I'm new to auto-x having run my first event last month on my street tires. Fronts are Michelin Pilot Sports and rears are Nitto DR's. Not exactly an auto-x set up but neither is my Maggie.
So I've gotten bit by the bug and want to run some more appropriate rubber. From what I'm told, wait until next season to try some R compound so for this season, what should I get for my 17" track rims?
If they made Dunlop Star Specs in C5 sizes I'd go that rout but no luck there.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

you will get a ton of answers. you need to ask yourself:
1.) budget
2.) street and autox or just autox extra rims
3.) dry or wet?
See this link in the tires section of the most popularly used tires for events.

Melting Slicks
Although I normally run the A6's for autocross, I have successfully used the Nitto NT-05 as a street tire option when I have to drive to a local event to compete. I'm very happy with the way they have performed for me... priced very moderately for my Z06, too

for autocross you want tires that do not need a lot of heat in them to get to optimal traction. hi perf street tires (PS2, NT05, F1 Supercar etc) would probably work best.
There are some DOT r compound and race tires that work OK when cold as well but you would be buying a lot more tire than you would actually use if you are just starting out.

I like Summito HTR Z's for my street/track tires. I try not to use them on the track but sometimes I can't get my R6's to the track. Its just what I'm comfortable with and they are cheap in 275/40x17

LOL My wife loves that response best!
I was ready to order the Nitto NT-05's but I can't find them in stock.
I've read some great things on the Kumho Ecsta XS and the price is really good so it looks like I'll order a set and try it out.
Thanks again for the tips!
