Default Best Air Pressure for the track?

My friend and I both have the Nitto Nt-01 tires - 275s front and 315 rear on stock C5Z06 sized wheels. We were running at the Nürburgring which is quite long and the tires heat up pretty good. I thought a lower pressure would be better but the tires just squealed like crazy and didnt stick well at all. Just curious what pressure works best for this situation?

Thanks,

I'm gonna GUESS that about 36-38 psi HOT air pressure.

I also run the NT01, and start at 35 cold and I keep them at 38 hot. This is on a relatively short(slow) 1.8 mile, 10 turn course. I've seen them hit 45 and the grip really goes away at that pressure.

World Challenge is forced to run 275f 335r and they manage to make it work somehow. :-)

If you buy a probe type tire temp gauge you will be able to answer this yourself for any car, tire, track or weather. Take readings on the inner tread block, the center, and the outer tread block. If the center of the tire is the lowest temp, then you need more air. If the center is the hottest, then you need less air. You want even temps across the tire for max wear, and 10 - 20 degrees hotter on the inside (with middle in the middle) for max grip (typically - you can always experiment). This also provides ideal data to help sort your chamber settings.

Only check one axle at a time because they cool off real quickly (unless you have a crew to do this for you).

Good luck.

On my C5Z06, I run NT01 275 fronts and 315 rears. I start with 27-28 cold and look for 36-38 hot.

I drive the car pretty hard, so my tires tend to heat up a bit.
