Best way to lower exhaust pipes just after manifold (in front of cats)
I would ask this in the C5 tech section but most of the exhaust topics there have to do with adding chrome tips or something.
I need better access to the oil temp sensor area (just above filter) to troubleshoot an oil leak with some aftermarket stuff I installed.
Steps completed so far:
-removed the 3 nuts (each side) connecting the pipe just in front of the cats to the exhaust manifold.
-removed the two bolts attaching the pipes to the car further downstream
I can now wiggle the pipes around, but can't move them further back because of interference with the tunnel and can't move them further down because the pipes hit the lower stud on each side coming out from the manifold.
I need to lower them out of the way, do my work, then reinstall.
Any recommendations on what to do next?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

I'm guessing you're talking about the 2 hanger bolts. You also need to remove the bolts that attach to the muffler section to the mid-pipe (2 per side). Then push the muffler section up and out of the way. You can then pull the mid-pipe back and down enough to clear the manifold bolts. Be sure to support the mid-pipe so it's not hanging from the O2 sensors or just remove them.
That did it, thanks!
Ever run the engine like this (mid pipes removed) just to test everything out?
