Default Opinions on Kirkey Seats (Intermediate vs. Full Containment)

I'm going with Kirkey seats when my Z gets caged (hopefully work starts next week). I thought I had decided on the Kirkey Intermediate Road Race:

But a little more research suggests I should go with something like their Road Race Containment:

Is anybody on here running either of these seats? What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
TJ

#2 is what I would go with as it is going to be safer. Price looks great too!

Race shop I'm working with (www.tcdesignfab.com) said that the Kirkey containment seat would need them to spend a bunch of time re-enforcing various bits for them to feel as comfortable with it as a RaceTech RT-4009 or Recaro Pro Racer SPG HANS.

Honestly, everything else I've had has had a Kirkey mounted, though, and I found them quite comfortable... better check if the full containment or even a halo seat can fit in the C5/C6 interior, though.

I just installed the Kirkey full containment seat in my C5.

I used Hardbar seat rails and a TeamTech 6 point harness. I am very happy so far with the improvement over stock seats.

I have much more head room and my knees don't hit the dash anymore.

Do you have a cage? If not what did you brace the seat to?

We use the Kirkey Intermediate with the containment halo piece
bolted to it. Added the halo about a year after installing the seat.
Works great.

I had a brace fabricated by Autopower to work with the Hardbar harness bar.

In our case, just to the seat, as the seat is well braced, tied into the
cage and welded steel floor pan.

The Halo piece justs sits all the way down on the shoulder supports.

This is in our ASA type road race stock car.

Our last ASA car had a similar set up with the halo supported by
sturdy alum. brackets coming off the cage.

Not a great pic, but if you look hard, you can get the idea.
We used the halo with the short left side, to ease entry & exit.

Also check into Randy Lajoie's seats. They are custom fit for a tad bit more than the Kirkey full containment seat. Also they have seats where people have backed out on buying at discounts sometimes.

Do you have a ballpark on the price (I didn't see anything on their website)? It sounds like they have a fitting center in Modesto which isn't too far for me if I make a trip home. Oh, and any idea if that would even fit in a C5Z?

I was talked out of the Kirkey or any aluminum seat for that same reason. I ended up putting a RaceTech RT-4009HR in the car. I used a Hardbar rail kit for the install. It fits just fine in a C5 Z06. I've been in a C6 Z06 with them installed also. I'm 6ft tall and fairly even upper/lower body length. I fit in there just fine and sit low enough to more than clear the roof and have leg room. It's not jammed up against the console as bad as the Corbeau I had on sliders. You can't beat RaceTech for the quality, but they don't give them away either...

Have not tried it on track yet. Just tested out around some back roads and run to work.

metal seats are good only if they are supported well because they fold in a crash.

FIA legal Plastic seats only last 5 years for 90% of sanctioning bodies then you have to fit a wonky back stabber brace.

Racetech 4009 series is the only maker I know of who makes a plastic seat tested over the FIA G load limit and has a integral reinforced back to accept a bolted in back brace.
