Default Shocks & Springs - Response seems slow

Maybe I'm getting more used to this car, or maybe this is actually something thats getting worse...

I'm currently running stock non z51 springs, and 2 year old KYB shocks all round.

I've started to get the feeling that there is some sort of delay, or more like "aftershock" when going over uneven road surface... its at its worst when the whole car compresses into the suspension.

Instead of just dealing with bumps and moving on, it seems to make a meal out of them.

Does this sound like the case of weak springs? bad or soft shocks?

How many kilometers on the car and specifically on the shocks ? They should not be worn out after only 2 years use. Check the shocks for leakage also check out all the associated A arm and sway bar bushings for wear. Your spring, sway bar and shock combination is basically soft - stock from what you have listed. There are many upgrades available to give you crisper handling all the way up to race car stiffness and handling. You could go the Z06 spring, sway bar and shock combo and realize a nice streetable improvement. Many of the vendors here have upgrade systems for even higher levels of performance.

My first idea would be the KYB shocks, I would never put those on a car that I wanted to handle well.

What makes you say that though? I deal with KYB through my work and seem to have very little problems with regards build quality. Not arguing at all, just interested...

maybe they don't stick to origial specs or something?

I don't think Z06 stuff is going to work on a C4

This is the first time I heard of KYB on a Vette. They may be fine for some other cars/trucks.

Just sayin.

Your springs are probably fine, upgrade shocks, sway bars, suspension bushings to the level you desire, maybe higher performance tires.

KYB's are the last thing I'd run on a Vette, never mind one that I track.

Since you deal with them at work, ask for the valving specs. Compare them to a performance shock. Their build quality is fine, but they are not focused on building for superior handling.

KYBs are not a good performance shock. Bilsteins are one of the best, so are koni and penske. It sure sounds like a shock issue to me.

I should add that I too have the base model springs but my car handles great even with the factory Bilsteins with over 115K miles on them.

too. My VB&P sport Bilsteins have been doing wonders for me. Probably should have gone with the Z51 shocks with the way I drive though.... I'd ditch those KYBs. A slouch of a shock at best.

Ok guys cheers for the info - wasn't being hard to please I just like to know why something does or doesn't work

My understanding of shocks only goes as far as working, and broken really...

Koni FSD's are the only true new technology to hit non adjustable shocks in years. they can modulate high and low frequency dampening at the same time. ie. tiny washboards and potholes, etc

all the major car truck semi truck motorhome and airplane manufactures a are signing up for these puppies. after their Patent wears off= ALL Shocks will be built like these or offered with this technology....it is that good look it up.... google is your friend
