Default Tranny cooler for an M6 weekend warrior?

Hello all,

I am planning to take my car to the track this year and I wanted to find out what I need for cooling for my C6. I am adding a Z06 oil cooler and I have a M6.

1st. Does the tranny fluid run through the radiator.

2nd Do I need to add an external tranny cooler for a weekend warrior (no serious racing).

3rd If so do I just run and Earl's curved cooler behind the fog light inlet, or a B&M w/ electric fan with thermostat?

Thanks for your help!

run 2 full days on the track, log your temps and then decide.

these puppies can take a lot of heat

i believe that yes, c6 z51/GS has trans fluid cooler as a part of the radiator. i have never seen c6 z51 radiator up close so I suppose I could be wrong.

go ahead and do a few days to see if you get the dreaded trans overtemp warning on the track (comes up at about 275 degrees) before you decide if you need bigger coolers.

most likely the stock cooler will work fine, especially if you don't use 2nd gear too much.

C6 Z51 also has an EOC in the radiator, so the C6Z EOC makes me wonder if the OP has a base model?

With my C6 Z51 stock radiator I never got a tranny temp warning, but I was hitting 300+F on oil at Thunderhill in 100+F heat.

BTW, if you have a 'vert like your name implies, I'd look closely at the HPDE rules as you probably won't be running without at least a roll bar...

Z51, Z06, GS, ZR1 or european base model.

Basically all except base models sold in US.

The two biggest benefits of adding coolers are parts longevity and peace of mind. If you are not looking at the gauges every straight, you can concentrate on driving. If you keep the temps cool, your motor will last longer and you can do more track days. What's not to like?

We sell a kit for the c6 also. It's pretty similar to our c5 kits. They run off electric pumps and you will never know it's there until you throw the switch. The install is a bit of a pain, just being honest. But the results are good when you are done. Send me your email address and I can get you some more info!
