Default Best Road Race School

Got a birthday present from the wife to go to any race school that I want to.

What do you guys/gals recommend?

Distance is not really important as I will lump it into a vacation for the two of us.

Thanks.

if you are just starting, I highly recommend Spring Mountain Motorsports Park. Great guys and a way cool track.

This last part may be in issue, because there are not a whole lot of "wifey freindly" activities in Pahrump, NV unless you want to stay in Vegas and commute those 3 days (App 60 mi).

I just did my licensing last weekend at Miller Motorsports Park here in Utah it was great. First full on door to door racing for me. The staff there was really good to work with, By the last race on sunday my lap times were within 1/2 sec of the leader. Big improvement from where I started. Would recommend Miller for sure.

Just to clarify, Bondurant is not in New Mexico, Bob is in Chandler, Arizona.

Just 30minutes from Scottsdale. it sits next to Firebird International Main Road Course and Firebird West Road Course.

If you are serious about racing, spend 6000 bucks at Bondurant.

If you want to have fun and get lots of track time and still learn a lot,

go to Spring Mountain and put wifey up in Vegas(that may be the

biggest expense if she likes to gamble).

I went in January 3 years ago and it was 2495 for 4 days. I

then went back a year later and as a returning customer, paid the

same for private one on one race coaching. Great people, great facility,

great track.

If you elect Bondurant, Scottsdale is phenomenal in the fall. DO NOT

BOOK IN THE SUMMER between June and September. You will die!

I know.....I live there.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
CV

I am as beginner as they get....i.e. no racing experience.

My wife's good friend lives in LA. Might be a great way for her to see her for a few days and then she and I can go from there.

Given my lack of experience, does this sound like a good fit?

Yes, Spring Mountain would be a great place to start. My wife spent the three days exploring Death Valley one day, went shopping in Vegas another, and spent some time just relaxing in Pahrump.

The restaurant at the Pahrump Winery is great! http://www.pahrumpwinery.com/symphon...staurant_1.htm
I would not recommend commuting daily to Vegas. After a day at the track you will not want to spend an extra hour driving.

Default Skip Barber

I recommend Skip Barber. You will be learning in real race cars (open wheel, manual) but you can apply those skills anywhere. Their school usually counts for most racing organizations as well if you want to take your street car to open track lapping days.

They hold the school at tracks all over the USA so you can choose a good racetrack and destination area.

Might I recommend the Radical Racing School at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch?

It's a fantastic 2-day school where you learn drive the awesome Radical SR3. The Radical is a purpose-built race car that features a 1300cc engine, a 6-speed sequential gearbox, aero downforce, and only weighs about 1200 lbs. It's incredible!

Radical School Video

Here is a video of a Radical on our 1.5 mile road course.

You can take this just as a school or to get your SCCA license.

Of course, we also offer the Ron Fellows Corvette Driving School which is a 3-day class. If you want experience the ultimate Corvette, you can also take the Ron Fellows ZR1 Program.

While a student, you and your wife can take advantage of all our amenities including our 8,000 sqft clubhouse, locker rooms, pool, jacuzzi, fitness center, massage therapy, indoor shooting range, indoor racquetball court. We've even just added a climbing wall on our 42 ft tall observation tower. So there is plenty for your wife to do while you're out flying around the track You can even stay in one of our luxury condos.

Feel free to email or PM me if you have any questions. Or you can call Donna or Melinda at the track (800-391-6891).

Whatever you do....DO NOT TAKE A RIDE WITH KEN!

You will be hooked and end up buying a SR3 and having a blast racing with their traveling circus!

Hi Ken, it's Matt Merrill....how are things?
