Default Possible New Goodyear Track Tire ???

There was a very large Goodyear semi trailer parked in the paddock at VIR this weekend. They had done several days of testing prior to the TrackDaze / Mazda events this past week. As I was packing up getting ready to leave several additional cars and trailers full of Goodyear folks pull in. On an open car trailer was a yellow C6-Z06 that was obviously set up as a test car with some meaty slick type of tires on it. The Goodyear folks would not let me get close to the equipment and were not willing to discuss the Z06 tires. Maybe we can hope for some neat new tires from another US manufacturer - that would be nice. Any one else heard any rumors about a new Goodyear track tire in the offing ?

We are using the new DOT Goodyear tires on our 350Z this year that we run SCCA nationals. Its a very good tire and lap times don't drop off over a 30 minute race like other race tire brands. We are very happy with our tire results so far, not so happy having to carry more than 100#'s to much weight, or the small wheels, or the restrictor plate so we can run in T3. If SCCA doesn't adjust our car so we at least have a chance to win we will either park the car or run NASA next year or maybe try to put together a Grand Am program.

The Z might have been wearing the Eagle F1 Supercar G: 2.

I haven't seen a single one of those new goodyears at any nasa event all year. you don't see them advertise them much, and I haven't see much about them from end users on various forums, paddock chat, etc

A little more elaboration from the Goodyear rep:

These have been "in the works" for more than a year, and are a replacement for the former GS/CS DOT R-compound (which we absolutely loved!) They are intended to compete with the Hoosier R6, and seem to be priced slightly lower, size-for-size.

The Corvette world is not seeing much of them because Goodyear started manufacture with the smaller sizes (diameter and width), and is gradually building in the larger sizes.

It is good to hear that their grip appears to be very consistant during an entire sprint race. That was a real forte of the older GS/CS - they did not "drop off" as heat and "tread depth" changed. Hopefully, the larger sizes will retain that consistancy characteristic.

While these promise to be a very nice DOT radial, they will likely be nothing like the G19 in mechanical grip, handling characteristics, nor suspension settings.

. . . . . still waiting for our sizes . . . . .

Dredging up old thread...

So any more news on these tires?

http://www.racegoodyear.com/tires/pd...RP_05JAN11.pdf

Looks like they list C5 sizes and maybe an "A" compound.

Default Goodyears

I just bought a set of 315/30/18's scrubs that had 2 laps of them.

Your post with the codes really helped me ID what I bought. They were kind of an unknown to me before. And the code on the tire shows I have the softer compound.

One thing that surprised me, they are full inch wider than my old Hoosier 315/30/18 A6's.

I will be doing an autocross on 1/30/11 and will report my thoughts on them after the event.
