Instructor to student communicators
Looking to pickup a headset to communicate with another person in the car while on track. I found a couple of cheapies on the google, but was wondering what everyone else is using for the task. I've had many instructors in my car and I think I've heard the term 'chatbox' thrown around, any other good ones out there?

Yep, Chatterbox, I've used them for 9 years. My personnal one is 4 years old and works perfect.
The price in the above link is about what I paid.

I use 2 of the "student" headsets.

Had a Nady and after the third weekend it began to develop a bad static. Its now held together with electrical tape - I bring it along in case another Instructor needs to borrow it.
I use the chatterbox I bought the weekend the Nady started messing up.

Does the chatterbox only work between the two people in the car? Not my crew or anything?

I have used my Chatterbox a ton (75+ days) with mostly good results.
My one big complaint is the non-functing red LED. Why does it exist since it never comes on! It would be nice if it illuminated when the charger is functioning correctly. All you currently do is plug the darn charger in and hope something is happening. I've had a dead unit a couple times because I didn't quite get the plug pushed in far enough...

I got mine here: http://www.soloperformance.com/Chatt...em_p_1384.html
I went with the Closed Face in helmet headset. That works well because the speakers are mounted beside both ears, the wires are located between the helmet inner and outer layers so they aren't in the way and the microphone is velcro'd right in front ot my mouth. If the instructor uses the student headset it ha to be reinstalled everytime the helmet is removed. Even when you get used to slipping it inside the helmet it can be a pain. Why have two people in the car struggling with it.
One thing you should do once you get the student headset is to take a small wire tie and use it to put a small loop in the wire where it comes out of the speaker. Tie the wire to the boom with the wire tie. This will keep students from pulling the wire out of the speaker when they are pulling the headset out of their helmet.

I was surprised to see a package from Discovery parts waiting for me when I got home today.
Even more surprised to open it up and fine the brand new chatter box I ordered appears to have already been used. it came out of the box with 'wear and tear' marks already on it and very dusty, like it was used off road. the one connector on the bottom doesn't seat correctly either, but it still seems to work...
I'll call up Discovery parts on Monday and see what they can do for me.

Send the unit back to Chatterbox and tell them what is wrong. They have replaced mine for no charge along with 2 head sets. THey are great to work with. JD
