Default 17" vs. 18" wheels for C5 track car....

I just bought a 2003 Z06 T-1 car. The car came with CCW classic 17" wheels. Besides the difference in turn-in, sidewall height and stiffness between the two, is there any benefit in going to an 18" wheel?

Thanks

The 18" slicks and dot-r tires are a lot easier to find used if you go that route with tires. . U can also run bigger brakes with the 18" setup. And 18's look better! lol

What size tires are you running?
If are entertaining used Rs (like from John Berget tire), that may dictate your choice. I think Phoenix has the larger widths in either size. 17s are obviously cheaper new.
The extra sets of wheels and tires may help with choice as well.

If you can join the Hoosier contingency program and win tires, you can have any size you like...

295 front 315 rears A6's. I need to start looking at a good tire other than the A6 while I dial in the suspension. I was pushing allot with the scrubs in a few turns at Willow Springs. I still need to check the alignment and dial in the Moton's possibly.

Hey Stan, if you ordered the AP kit from Gary already you're stuck with either 18's or wait until 949 releases their 17s next year..and those brakes would be an expensive paper weight at home

Check out the Forgestar wheels (Ryne is a vendor for them and gets great prices): http://www.forgestar.com/v1/f14.php

Also for tires, the Nitto NT-01's are great, and cash prices with these guys are nearly unbeatable: http://www.citytireonline.com/NittoNTO1.htm

wouldn't hurt while you're testing to try both the 295's up front and 315's to see which you like better.

Using 3/8" worth of spacers you can get the stock 17" thin spokes to fit over Gary's kit. I haven't tried the C5 Z06 fronts yet. The C5 Z06 rears fit without any spacer (in case anyone was interested).

I thought about the big brakes and 18's for my car, but it's not worth it to me at this point.

$2000 x 2 sets of new wheels -$4k
$4000 for brakes? total -$8k and not that much benefit.

I run 17 inch wheels with Wilwood BBK. I find used 315 enough and usually buy new 295 for the front from time to time.

Bringing this back up to the top.

I am considering a set of "T1" fitment 17" CCW's for my HDPE car.

Should I hold out for a set of 18's?

This is a fun car that will see the track maybe once per month, and obviously used tires when I can find them are always a bonus. Not trying to set any track records, just have fun and out-run a buddy's stock 2013 GT500.

17's worked fine for me. I was able to find R888, A6, R6 and V710 scrubs for cheap ($100 a tire max).

What what a coincidence, my non-CCW budget setup is for sale here : http://forums.corvetteforum.com/auto...osier-a6s.html
