I loved the Le mans starts, they were so exciting. After reading this it seems like it was a million years in the past on a different planet.
I remember a few years back (Here in D/FW) for an IRL race, the weather was perfect and the drivers got together and refused to drive because the track was too fast!
That made me sick, what a bunch of wussies.
Anyway thanks for the link it was great.

...This was really fun to read. It reminded me of what got me interested in Auto Racing to start with. The fearless drivers risking everything to win, the lack of all the rules they deal with now. Heck they drove the race cars 7 mile to and from the track on Public Streets. How cool is that?

As a kid back then in 1957, the Corvette SS was as futuristic as my favorite TV show, Captain Video and the TV Rangers. My uncle was a Quality Assurance specialist for GM; and when we went to Alton, IL for a visit, he would take me to the St. Louis plant to see the Corvettes being built. We walked the entire line and always ended up with me riding a a passenger as a finished Corvette drove off the assembly line. Talk about getting Corvette Fever young.
